Well, based upon tcforchrist's admonition to check out R.A. Vernon's teachings for myself, I headed over to his website, which is festooned with his name, initials, and pictures. Here is part of his bio......I haven't stopped chuckling since reading this, and I didn't make it past the bio into the doctrine yet. Read on, and you'll see what I mean.

"Pastor R. A. Vernon is God's "threshing instrument" raised up in the Greater Cleveland area, for "such a time as this." Running with God's vision, he is seizing the kingdom of God by force. Blessed with a fierce, bold and uncompromising delivery, Pastor Vernon fervently elucidates "THE WORD" of God by his utter dependence on the Lord, a passion for souls, and his determination to hold fast to integrity. The radical, unpretentious preaching and teaching style of Pastor Vernon has transformed the lives of thousands of men, women, boys and girls.

The evidence of God's hand upon his life was witnessed early, and Pastor Vernon quickly became a servant of the Lord, leading bible study, Sunday School classes, youth activities and serving as a deacon. He became the youngest pastor in the city of Cleveland when he took on his first pastorate at the age of 28 at a traditional Baptist church. God used Pastor Vernon's confrontational style of preaching to grow the membership to over 500 in the span of one year.

It was during this time that God used a church rooted in spiritual traditionalism to bring forth the anointing that would draw thousands. It happened one Sunday morning when Pastor Vernon arrived at the church, prepared to preach to God's people, and discovered that there would be no Word from the Lord that day. The leaders of the church had changed the locks on the door, preventing the entire congregation from worshipping that morning.

Pastor Vernon, led by the Spirit of God, chose not to challenge the leadership of the church. He purposed instead to follow the plan of God. God was ushering in a new thing; He directed Pastor Vernon to build a church that operated under Kingdom Authority, rather than man-made traditions. Out of those divine orders, "THE WORD" Church was born in October of 2000.

With a culturally diverse congregation that consists of rich and poor, Black and White, young and old, Pastor Vernon walks in a powerful anointing to reach the unreachable, the broken, the wounded, and the rejected. He has earnestly committed to demonstrating unconditional love to all that God sends his way. As a result, "THE WORD" Church has become the fastest growing church, ever, in the Greater Cleveland area. In five years time, "THE WORD" church has increased from 150 members to over 10,000 and continues to experience remarkable growth.

Pastor Vernon believes in the holistic concept of building the total man. He has committed himself and the church to the economic empowerment of people in the community he serves. He formed the Word In Action, LLC, which operates a sporting and special events facility, the Kingdom Café, a restaurant located inside of the church, and a Christian bookstore. "THE WORD" Child Care Center, a sister agency, was also opened under his vision and direction, as well as R. A. Vernon Ministries, a global outreach broadcast ministry, dedicated to promoting God's Kingdom Agenda and saving souls.

This humble servant of God ( ) has been called to preach the Kingdom agenda and to help other pastors who are stuck in traditional church settings. He is poised to equip leaders to deal with the struggles that accompany being pregnant with vision, yet handicapped by tradition. Thousands are blessed by hearing the message that God gives him through his daily radio broadcasts, and millions are blessed as they watch him via television on PAX and The Word Network.

GOOOOOD GRIEF!!! Just think what this bio would look like if'n he wasn't such a HUMBLE MAND O' GAWWWWWWWD

I see lots of mentions of R.A.Vernon, but does anyone notice which prominent figure of Christian history couldn't be shoehorned even once among the multitudinous recitations of this humble man's name and talents?? OK, ONE HINT....

I don't quite understand. Preference is one thing and actual doctrine is another. A dislike for the lighting in a church and thinking broke is like Jesus is preference i.e. if you don't like strobe lighting or Pastors with money go to a church where there are neither. But what EXACTLY does this Pastor preach that is wrong? He's on t.v. so this should be quite easy to find out. And do people sometimes have a fundamental deep seated distrust and dislike for all Pastors and for all people who have money? Have we been taught these things through a poverty theology which may have preceded the prosperity theology? In particular in the Black church tradition which has notoriously preached that broke and ashy was like Jesus, and the more you suffer financially the more like Jesus you are. This was fine when black folk by majority were poor but today this is not the case don't we read the bible through our experiences and isn't this what makes it applicable to every generation?

If you Pastor a church with 100 mems who give $1000 per yr than your church raises $100,000 per year not counting if you rent out halls or classrooms or gyms or whatever, so if the Pastor's salary is 20% (I believe thats IRS req, though most Pastors don't take this) their salary would be $20,000. Hardly enough to raise a family but if the church has 10,000 mems giving $1000 a yr that church raises $10,000,000 per yer not counting other sources of income, so the Pastors salary if still 20% is $2,000,000-wow! You can raise the heck out of a fam on that, though that's no where near enough if you like to give alot.

The thought according to the IRS and to me is this Pastor must have something different going on here and POSSIBLY posess greater than usual gifting, some would say all the members are deceived and he should repent and ask them all to leave-via tv commercial or sign on the building!!

But considering most people aren't good at their jobs forget excellent and most churches aren't either eventhough excellence doesn't always cost alot, I think its fair that if you generate more you should make more, I'm speaking purely financial. I don't assume that all financially wealthy Pastors are somehow deceptive or pimps and that all Pastors that are broke (and most are) are like Jesus. AND if they make more they should do more, right???? Anyway follow me.

If the CEO of a company can increase the company's profit from $100,000 to $10,000,000 he or she must be gifted at motivation, coaching, training, people development etc and probably deserves an increase in salary for what they have contributed. So why is this true in business but not in church? People development is the whole point of church i.e. equipping and building up, and the reason for everything the church does or at least should be. We know that life is sometimes unfair and that Jesus bless in different ways and there are great Pastors with big hearts and NO MONEY!!! Which doesn't really matter except all the times we say why doesn't the church do this and that the response is they can't because they are BROKE!!

Which is why, I assume, the party was all about the celebration of life eternal? Oh, and was layered with the Gospel? She portrayed such a Christ-like character (lol). There was no flesh involved (really lol). Please!

If she had been trained at all, she first of all would have a different attitude (which was apparantly shaped by her parents - and deemed okay or just cute), second of all, Christ would have been the center of something (I guess Da Truth was the highlight that was supposed to give Jesus His props) - instead it was all about her.

He (the pastor/daddy big bucks) asks her to name the party a more Christ-like name, in front of an MTV cameraman (won't even get into what was wrong with that picture), and lastly, had no apparent teaching on the scripture that says "Abstain from all appearance of evil" 1 Thessalonians 5:22.

Like Melvin suggested, is his salary based on the number of members? And if so, do they base the amount they use to help the poor on the number of members? Even if they do the things said for the poor, how many people could have been blessed with the cost of those scooters? Three scooters after her mother told her she could have the most expensive one was equivalent to saying, "baybah, you can have whatever your wittle heart desires. I might say no, but no don't mean no - especially if I think it's going to hurt your wittle feelwings."

Give us a break. We are not materialistic minded people. We just believe in calling a duck a duck.

(See Melvin - I told you I could embrace using paragraphs. How much do I owe you?)

Before you judge R. A. Vernon as a pulpit pimp you must investigate the doctrine he is teaching. I have watched his television show for the last two years. He does not teach that you can name and claim health and wealth. He preaches about Christians living with integrity as men and women. He exhorts his huge congregation to better themselves spiritually and help others. The people who contribute to this website concentrate on the material things too much. Of course if you pastor a 15,000 member church you are going to be wealthy.

(MN: I'm sorry - where is there a relationship between the number of members and the wealth of the pastor. Is pastoring like some multi-level marketing scheme? The more people you have under you the more income you have coming in? The Bible appears to say nothing of the sort. )

Who is to judge how much is too much?

(MN: Fifty LV handbags? "My daddy gets me whatever I want?", $25,000 for a part for your daughter? Three scooters when most of the folks who attend the church are stuck on the bus. I guess excess is a little like smut. I can't precisely define it, but I know it when I see it. Does the condition promote spiritual growth or does it push me toward materialism? )

Is there a formula that will satisfy you? It all depends on the character and message of the pastor. (MN: And that doesn't seem to stand up under examination either. ) Check out his doctrine before you judge his ministry. You cannot judge a pastor based on the attitude of a 16 year old. (MN: You can get an awfully good indication if the 16 year old is his daughter. What does the Bible say about the children of a man who would be an elder? )

If the truth was told a lot of Christian teenagers are impressed by the world of money and fame. Thousands of Christian teenagers across the country like rap, rock n roll, fashion, and celebrity lifestyles. It takes maturity, experience, and bible teaching for them to learn that these things are nothing compared to the eternal gift of Jesus Christ.

So sad. I don’t know who’s more pathetic. The spoiled brat or the scripturally dead young lady in the video. I feel sorry for both of them.

I really do not like to talk about people, because the Bible says that we will have to give an account for every word, so I will choose my words as wisely as possible. I have three Points to share:

1. What I saw in the video can best be described as 'Monkey see, monkey do' - The daughter was doing what she had seen her parents do, manipulate people to get what you want. Heavenly Father, please open their eyes!

2. What kind of christian would have their child go on a show that is so 'UNGODLY'? That has got to be the one of the stupidest things I have seen in a long time. Until, I looked at the educated lady with the crying 'he singing my song' baby in the background. How can you try an put someone in their place and you do not know how to push a pause button on a camera to go take care of your baby? Heavenly Father, open her eyes too!

3. Last one, the tree is known by it's fruit. This is a nut tree that is fully ripe! Father, please forgive me if I have said anything wrong or offened those whom I have asked you to open eyes. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!

Please pray for the City of Cleveland there has been allot of pastors who have died over recent years (the last ten years), leaving allot of baptist churches looking for new leadership. And these were bible teaching preachers and teachers who had a strong influence on the inner city baptist churches. I do feel that these is some relation between that and the growth of the Word church. There has been a huge viod left in the inner city black baptist church. I just pray that more young ministers step up to the plate and take their rightfull place and preach the truth of the gospel.

Hello, Melvin:
I searched for two hours @ foxnews.com, google.com, ask.com, youtube, com, and could not find anything about Fast Eddie. He was on Fox News at 0700 -0715 EDT on Easter Sunday. I was not hallucinating; in fact, I immediately thought about you and the other members of the Pantheon, when Eddie showed his chicklets.
Perhaps GaryV or IC can turn over some rocks to find the Bishop's interview.

barauch,
You're right, he started out in a small storefront, from there he went to a high school auditorium (he was there around 2000) he left there and went to a old movie theater located in a small shopping plaza. While in the plaza, he opened up a christian bookstore, a restaurant, and barber shop. When he moved to the former sports complex, all of the businesses closed.

I went in the book store on a Saturday, there were about five folks standing at the counter talking. I just walked around browsing waiting to see if they were going to acknowledge that a customer was there. Well the sheeple didn't utter a word, so I left and never returned.

What disturbs me the most of about this pimpistry is he is destroying YOUNG souls with this WOF doctrine. Most of the members there are in their 20's and 30's, you will find very few members there in their 60's.

Hey Melvin,

I emailed you but didn't get a response. Is this the correct address-mjones@pulpit-pimps.org?

I also asked about here but didn't know if you understood what I was saying.

I would like to repond to IC's last post in regards to a conservation we were having but I cannot find it for the life of me

Can you please tell me what subject it is under?

Or, if you do understand my previous request but feel that a response is not needed, please let me know and I will be more than happy to comply.
Thanks for the consideration

(MN: Sorry for not answering previously. I'm not sure where the post is. Perhaps if you could give me a group of words you remember being in the post, I can do a search. )

"I remember as a child seeing the things — love, fawning, special privileges — being bestowed on my pastor’s children that were not given to the other children in our church. I remember that feeling of wishing I had what they had — the title of being a PK."
Not all PKs are (were) spoiled like that. Yes, I did get the LOVE from my parents (thank God!), and at times, that was it! I hardly received what I wanted, but I had what I needed. Believe me, not all PKs are or act that way. We need as much prayers as your own children need - if not more, as we have to deal with "special" church members. Pray for the real PKs (Preacher's Kids), as well as for the PKs (P.I.M.P.'s kids) that God may open their eyes to what's really going on.

Thank you

N Catina,

Keep working hard. Keep your head up. Hard work pays off and never take your eyes off the Lord which is the most important thing.

The funny thing about this is that it is the Pimps that target individuals in your situation. It's sad, but have you ever wondered why they always spout off something regarding not being able to pay some kind of bill. It's at that point when they close the deal and bilk the desperate out of their rent money. Seriously though, does it not shock you that the Pimps feed off the very people who need the most? These people would have the audacity to look you in your face and tell you that the reason you lack is because you are cursed. How dare they!

"Here’s someone who makes $9.00 an hour ..." That is absolutely NO money!!! I am SHOCKED that anyone working an office job, in 2008, would be making anything less than $16/hr. I guess it's all regional, but I can make more pushing burgers at the McDs up the street from my house here in PHL than working ar a desk in Cleveland!! My goodness.......

(MN: Don't be too hard on the companies in Ohio. My wife works for Macy's here in Bowie and she only makes about 8 dollars an hour. Just enough, as she says, to buy a granola bar and a soda. )

Hello, N'Catina:

By the way, did you happen to see Fast Eddie this past Sunday morning on Fox News?

He was interviewed - for 15 minutes - via satellite from the Georgia Dome prior to fleecing the expected flock of 40,000.

While there was no mention of sin or repentance, Long did speak of the resurrection of Jesus. Alas, even that was diluted in terms of "new beginnings for all men on this Easter Sunday."

Nevertheless, the Fast One was personable and engaging; he is one slippery eel.

(MN: Do you happen to know what station broadcast the intervies? I'd llike to see it and perhaps work up a posting. Fast Eddie is probably one of the worst of the pimps these days. I could easily see him wandering on off the edge of the Christian planet. In my view, he is destroying the Christian standards in three entire counties. )

melvin thanks for the book first.

but i remember this dude from years ago when things were not so great. How times change when the money comes. he has used the urban scene as his backdrop. i have been peeping his game for a while now. he started targeting unwed mothers and that sent him through the roof.

this is heart wrenching for me because we get to the see the nonsense that they are spitting out and no oner seems to care. i live in SC and to take bold stands against heresy is a misnomer. people here are so gased up about unbiblical principles until you are made to be the heretic. we have a fast growing gang problem sweeping the state and these churches are trying to figure out how to build bigger churches.

but i remember this dude from years ago when things were not so great.

(MN: Tray - I want to introduce you to a revolutionary concept. It's call "paragraphing". You surely realize that I can't direct supernatural blessing your way if you don't use paragraphs. )

Seekerman, I appreciate all of your kind and truthful words. As for my difficulties with losing, it's a simple case of being so desparate that I'm easily discouraged. Well, not too easily, but it's too much to go into. I am determined that I will lose it. No matter how many times I "give up" I will always continue to pick it up again (not the weight, but the efforts to lose it). I will admit that for years I didn't see the big deal about watching what I put in my body because I was so tuned in to what was going on in my life; but here lately, it has become an important issue, which I believe will assist me in sticking to my dietary plans. My greater issue, though, is really being in control of my flesh. I would guarantee you that at least most people who are overweight, especially to the point of obesity, you will find have other areas in their lives where they lack either self-control and/or simple discipline, usually due to feeling worn out from life's stresses. The weight makes it obvious, but underneath there are surely more areas where a grip is needed. I'm leaning to pray more pointedly in the matter; instead of praying, "Lord help me lose the weight," I began praying "Lord help me learn to bring my flesh under submission in every area of my life. Help me to remember You when triggers come, and mostly, help me to see myself as Your Home, and not just as me." Remember, it's usually not just about eating but most often more about how we handle stress and issues that bring us discomfort. As important as it is to get the eating under control (and yes, sometimes I have to fight the simple urge for a Ferrero Rocher), the real key, I believe, is learning to go the the Word and lean on the Presence of the Lord in response to life's ups and downs. This doesn't just touch on eating, but even how we respond in traffic, at work, with our children, bills, etc. Obesity says to the world, I have given my flesh a voice. Controlling the flesh most likely does not begin or end with eating habits, in all honesty, it usually begins with not adhering to God's Word and will most likely end with the same (for believers, that is). But our eating habits are the most popular vehicles to screaming out. It is convenient and soothing - not something we have to wait for. I can curl up with a bowl of ice cream and feel just fine - for the moment. Prayer, on the other hand, my mean waiting on God to fix something that He isn't in a hurry to fix. Not saying this is a wise way to look at it, but let's face it, this mentality is what has many in the church running to mysticism - not wanting to wait on the Lord. We fix this way of thinking, we are on our way to healthier lives - physically and spiritually.

Sorry to be so long winded. But I wanted to share one more thing. When you are over weight, you are actually carrying around with you 24/7 all of the excess. So imagine being 100 lbs overweight - you are actually carrying 100 lbs around with you everywhere you go - even when sleeping. You are tired and get out of breath quickly. Your energy is zapped. The more weight you are over, the more this increases. You deal with the shame of how you look and often times convince yourself that you are really not that big. You feel trapped and all of those feelings compel you to comfort yourself even more. You do not do this intentionally - it is a cycle. What makes this so difficult is that during these cycles, you still have to deal with the issues that prompted your need to comfort yourself in the first place, only now with more of the weight weighing you down. Trust me when I tell you, overweight people are not overweight because they do not care - they are overweight because the challenges that come with carrying around the weight and the shame seemingly leave them no other choice than to convince themselves that they don't care. If you are going to pray for people who need to lose weight, pray more specifically that the come into the knowledge that it is more about the flesh than their appetite. It is more about their use of the Scriptures than their knowing them. I had to imagine a house the was prepared for Christ being a mess - clothes everywhere and dirty dishes in the sink, bedroom unkempt - before I could appreciate my body being a temple of the Holy Ghost. I have to clean it up. I wouldn't dare let someone come to my home and catch it unclean - How could I expect the Lord to live in an unclean temple? Anyway - email me if you'd like to talke more. I've said too much (Melvin is going to ban me if I don't shut up.) trayjay.tamar@fuse.net My computer at home died and I'm not sure when I will replace it. For now I can check my emails from work. Have a blessed day and thanks again for your concern.
