Oprah with bags

Oprah is giving a ten part class via the internet. If you want to (and you log on early enough), you can get the live stream every Monday at 9:00 pm for the next eight weeks. I sat through a podcast of the first one. I’ve downloaded the second one and am working up the energy to watch it.

At first, as I was listening to it, I thought of what I was going to say in a posting as I railed against her. But as I watched it, as I listened to Oprah’s excitement over the nonsense words coming out of Eckhart Tolle’s (toe-lee) mouth, I finally had to recognize and state unambiguously that Oprah is unsaved. And as a result of being unsaved, she is totally blind to the truth of the Gospel and blind to the absolute poverty of New Age intellectual and spiritual crap being presented by Eckhart.

Oprah asked him about the motivation for writing the book. Here is the answer he gave. Note that Oprah is more than willing to follow along.

ECKHART: And I, intellectually I couldn’t have answered, why am I writing another book? And it happened.

OPRAH WINFREY: And it happened. Were you asking life, universal energy? I don’t know. What do you call that? As a word do you – I call it “God.” What do you, what word do you use for that?

ECKHART TOLLE: Consciousness…

OPRAH WINFREY: Were you asking consciousness, were you saying, what do you want from me?

Oprah calls some mysterious consciousness “God.”

Then they start talking about the spiritual nature of flowers.

ECKHART TOLLE: Yes, like messengers. A flower is very much more fragile than a plant. It is more fleeting; ethereal, I think is the word; more ethereal. So it has less density to it than most other things. And because of the lack of density, it’s almost as if spirit could flow through it more freely.

So when you contemplate a flower without too much interference of the thinking mind; to actually truly look. This is what Jesus said, by the way. I mean in churches you’ll hear; will hear Jesus saying, “Look at the lilies of the field.”

OPRAH WINFREY (HOST): Yes.

ECKHART TOLLE And so when he said that, he wasn’t just saying, “Look at the lilies of the field.” He said, “look.”

OPRAH WINFREY: Aren’t they pretty? Yes.

ECKHART TOLLE: He said, look, you really have to look because there is something that they embody something that you also have. But because of all your anxiety about tomorrow and you’re thinking, I’m translating very freely now, what Jesus said.

OPRAH WINFREY: Yes.

ECKHART TOLLE: Why are you – these flowers are not anxious, they have no – they are not concerned about tomorrow and see how beautiful they are. How god clothes them in such beauty. And you can live like that also. So he used this natural realm and flowers to get people in touch with the dimension of depth within men.

Did you catch that? Flowers aren’t plants. They are more ethereal, less dense. And Oprah just ate it up.

Kelly called in from Illinois. Here’s a segment of the discussion:

KELLY (ILLINOIS): I had a Catholic upbringing, I married a Catholic, and we’re raising our children this way. In reading books such as Tolle’s, I’ve really, it’s really opened my eyes up to a new way of thinking; a new form of spirituality that doesn’t always align with the teachings of Christianity. So my question is to you, Oprah, how have you reconciled these spiritual teachings with your Christian beliefs?

OPRAH WINFREY: Oh, the question’s to me. I was resting knowing it was going to about – I’ve reconciled it because I was able to open my mind about the absolute indescribable hugeness of that which we call “God.” I took God out of the box because I grew up in the Baptist church and there were, you know, rules and, you know, belief systems indoctrinated.

And I happened to be sitting in church in my late 20’s and I was going to this church where you had to get there at 8:00 in the morning or you couldn’t get a seat. And a very charismatic minister, and everybody was just, you know, into the sermon. And this great minister was preaching about how great God was and how omniscient and omnipresent, and God is everything.

And then he said, and the lord thy god is a jealous god. And I was, you know, caught up in the rapture of that moment until he said “jealous.” And something struck me. And I was like, I think about 27 or 28. I was thinking God is all, God is omnipresent, God is – and God’s also jealous? God is jealous of me?

And something about that didn’t feel right in my spirit because I believe that God is love and that god is in all things. And so that’s when the search for something more than doctrine started to stir within me. And I love this quote that Eckhart has, this is one of my favorite quotes in chapter one where he says, “Man made god in his own image, the eternal, the infinite, and unnamable was reduced to a mental idol that you had to believe in and worship as my god or our god.”

She has rejected the God of the Bible because she thinks He is jealous of her. And she has substituted a harmless and impotent consciousness. Talk about being completely blind.

While I was watching the pod cast, I was wondering how an intelligent and wildly successful business woman can be so foolish as to accept the blatant drivel produced by this man.

Then I had to remind myself that Oprah can do no less than exactly what she is doing. She is unsaved. She is, according to the Bible, an enemy of God. She has been blinded by the god of this world. The Gospel is foolishness. She can’t obey the law of God and doesn’t want to obey it. She…well, you get the idea.

Watching her was actually heart breaking. It was like watching a naïve child being lied to and being too innocent to understand that the man is lying to her so he could molest her. Tolle would say such things as:

And for each a place within yourself that is unconditioned, that is what I sometimes call the formless consciousness, spirit expressed beautifully in the Old Testament in the little saying, be still and know that I am god. (Psalm 46:10) That is, and that’s in the Old Testament. It contains the entire wisdom of religion in those few words. Be still, meaning go to that place where the mind is no longer operating. You are just conscious without thinking. And that is the level where the eternal resides. So the eternal, the formless, the spirit is the essence of every human being.

So why didn’t he pick John 14:6, in which Jesus says “I am the way and the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father (not a consciousness) but through me”? That pretty well sums up Christianity.

In all seriousness, I suggest we pray for this woman. More than that, I would like to get a “Day of Prayer and Fasting for Oprah” going. She really can’t help herself. And at the rate she’s going, when she dies, she will spend an eternity in hell. That is, after a million years have gone by, she will still be in torment.

I suggest we make May 1, May Day, “Pray for Oprah Day.” It could only benefit her. And hey, she just might turn that huge financial and executive power into a force of Godliness. I’ll be a guest on “The Pastor’s Corner” this out of Sacramento this Friday night. The feedback I got from them so far was very positive. We will likely talk it up and see what develops around the web and around the Christian community.

As you know, I normally don’t even try to suggest that this or that person be prayed for. Most of the people who appear on this site, in these posts, are active and aggressive leeches, sucking the life from foolish and ignorant Christians. Most of them know what they are doing is wrong. Oprah, on the other hand, really doesn’t have a clue. She is indeed like a kid, eager to believe a lie. Wouldn’t it be an amazing sight if the Big O came on her show and announced that she had been wrong all these years? Hey, it happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. Why not Queen Oprah?

And if you’re feeling especially generous, you might even toss up a prayer or two for Eckhart.

The 1st part of this got me thinking that if Oprah wasnt wealthy, she would be sitting in the back of a brightly colored VW van, wearing a sun dress and an afro with a head band(Hendricks style) and a FLOWER in her hair.

I use to think Oprah was in the same neighbor hood as being saved, but just missed a turn and refused to go back.

But after the Secret, and now this new age mess, I fully realized that she completely drove by the exit to being saved and is driving straight to hell with millions of people behind her.

Maybe the Bible should be on the list on her book club.

Melvin, I could not agree with you more, yes, “Day of Prayer and Fasting for Oprah.” That women is dangerous; she leads milions of women on a path to Hell. Oprah is 20 years in the game and still has not found herself, for every time I turn around, she has a new book for her fans about “life purpose” and finding oneself.” She always say “this is it!” Then the next book, “this is it!”; then the next book - “this is it!” It goes on and on and on. Which one is it Oprah?

She takes her fans on these 360 journeys and they all end up at a dead end along with her.

My mother is an Oprah fan and I tried to warn her, yet my mother was not trying to hear anything I was saying. Oh YEAH, my mom claims to be a Christian in the midst of all this. I don’t agree with her.

I guess this latest book that Oprah is promoting now will be no different from the “Secret.”

The secret sold millions; it was originally written in the 1800s by a woman who worshipped Satan. In the original she gives praises to the Devil. (MN: Jahnea - I need some documentation to demonstrate this. I let it through since we are talking about a book and an unknown who died years ago. However, still give me a source for the statement. ) In the latest release of the “Secret” they cut it short and removed all the pages that made references to Satan. It is mixed with cult and Hindu beliefs and traditions. So sad how easily people can be deceived. Every time I went to Boarders Books, I always saw women come in and pick up the Bible and the “Secret.”

I told my mother about the Secret because she had the tape (the Secret) and she looked at me as if she did not know what to say.

Yes. Oprah is crazier than ever!!!

I could not believe that Kirk Franklin and His wife even went on Oprah show about a year ago to discuss their marriage issues and his addiction to porn. Well, maybe they could not see that she was not “saved.”

My apologies Melvin, “The Secret Doctrine” - AUTHOR: Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831-1891) The book was originally published in 1888 in two volumes. Helena was also the founder of the “Theosophical Society”

These are the pages in “The Secret” book where she makes statments to Lucifer: Pages- 171, 225, 255 (volume II)
PAGES- 215, 216, 220, 245, 255, 533 (vOLUME I) and page- 539

Clearly, Helena Blavatsky was a devout Satan worhipper, and and enemy of the Jesus Christ, she is also one of the pioneers of today’s occult “New Age Movement.”

The “Secret Doctrine” is also praised by witches today: http://www.coven-of-cythrawl.com/On_line_books.htm - you have to stroll down to “The Secret Doctrine”

My cousin was talking about “The Secret” book she read and how rediculous it was, so this raised my curiosity, so I did some research on the book, for I knew if Oprah recommended it than something was definitly wrong. This is what I found in my research. These sources that I provided above is only half of the sources, for it was alot of information.

(MN: Nice job. Thank you. Of course I have to add thecaveat that Wikipedia is one of those “middle” sources - better than a personal blog, less than the Encyclopedia Britannica. But again, nice job. )

(MN: An excellent question. Forgive me for allowing it through unchallenged. In general, the contents of a private blog doesn’t count as reliable information. )

2008-03-14 09:54:21

Oh I’ve heard it from more than one source. I only cited that because it focuses on the matter. Another MSM source mentioned it too, but it was kind of in passing, they were not highlighting it as an issue.

I just found another respected news source that mentions it. This is an older article (dated 1/21/2007): REV. JEREMIAH A. WRIGHT, JR.: Pastor inspires Obama’s ‘audacity’

Wright, 65, is a straight-talking pragmatist who arrived in Chicago as an outsider and became an institution. He has built a congregation of 8,500, including the likes of Oprah Winfrey and hip-hop artist Common, by offering an alternative to socially conservative black churches that are, Wright believes, too closely tied to Chicago’s political dynasties.

Thanks for having me find another source though, to ensure I’m not misleading anyone.

Here is my two cents…
I remember Pastor J. Wright preaching a “sermon” at New Birth (Miami). He started telling us a story about his ancestors and family. Part of the story entailed a little girl seeing a dead relative who had just passed away but stopped by his granddaugther’s home (or some other relation) to say goodbye. He also spoke about another relative being able to find the exact spot where an ancestor was buried. He is a skilled storyteller but nothing he said that day had anything to do with the person and work of Jesus Christ. And I cannot recall being any Scripture but perhaps he did read one verse but I don’t remember that.

The pastor of this same church earlier told us that he did not believe in the slave master’s gospel or religion. This is what I heard with my own two ears. I slowly became educated that some black churches really do preach another gospel. (I left that church.) I was naive about alot of things at the time and I still am to a certain extent. But I am sharing this to say, that churches like this may use some of the same terminology but they are referring to something entirely different when they say they are a Christian, or saved. We cannot expect them to act like a believer because they do not believe in the God of the Bible.

Yes Oprah needs our prayer.

Be careful for what you pray for…you might get it! That is Oprah becoming a “Christian” prosperity gospel believer and teacher and then we still have her influencing gobs of people to go off on the deep end of metaphysics but under a Christian guise. (MN: And she would likely not actually be saved. I’m not praying the she become a Prosperity Gospel preacher. We are to pray that she come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, that she be sho’ ‘nuf born again. What exactly did you have in mind praying for? )

No…pray that she will continue in her folly until she hits dead end and then sees how she has offended a holy God. Until Oprah comes to the end of Oprah…she is not going to change.

Think of her as a female King Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4) who glories in her self and then God brings to her wits ends when she finally comes to realize that it is not about Oprah or her metaphysical nonsense but about God and His Kingdom. Pray that she will have a “grass eating” experience so she can regain here sanity (Daniel 4:36) and receive God’s free gift of grace…Jesus the Christ.

(MN: And I can tell God HOW to save her because…? If she indeed receives Jesus Christ, in truth, why do I care what method God uses to draw her and save her? Or are you saying that since Oprah is crazy rich, God has to save her through some process that you identify? King Cyrus didn’t need that with Daniel. Why is there some specific set of steps God has to go through with her? Of course, if you want to pray that, it is certainly your business. )

Nothing “new” here, over history there have been many theology theories (read heresies) put forth by men who use just enough Scripture to fool the unlearned (read unsaved or non-bible students). The media (read shows like Oprah’s) make it more readily available to greater masses today.

There is no question about the need for prayer in this case. It is apparent Oprah does not know the God of Scripture and is making an idol god of her liking. And Jahnea makes a great point that she has become a “stumbling block” to many who follow her show (read her). That in itself is a real tragedy.

A day of prayer and fasting for Oprah is a good idea (and shows MN is capable of compassion). (MN: I deny that!! I’m a mean ogre who doesn’t care anything about people. Oh wait. That’s what my wife keeps saying. Never mind. ) The hope of seeing Oprah repenting and being saved on her show and the results of such an event is motivation enough. Count me in.

(MN: No. See this article. I’m saying just now I realized that we can pray for the woman just like we pray for anyone else. )

I had figured since the mid 90’s when she was promoting ‘course in new age miracles’ and other new age nonsense that this woman went off on the broad path a long long time ago!

Or more likely…she has never been saved at all… (MN: Certainly. Especially since you can’t get saved, and then lose your salvation. )

Not that it matters…she indeed needs our prayers now…she is a very dangerous woman that influences millions of her sheep in the most awful way… (MN: And that is one reason we should pray for her - because of the massive influence she holds. )

She needs prayer…Tolle needs prayer..Obama needs prayer and Jeremiah wright needs prayer…

If Oprah truly came to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and started teaching the true gospel on her TV program, she would be rejected by her followers; then her TV ratings would plummet and she would be reduced to finding air time on TBN.

Oprah is popular because she is giving the world what they want in an exciting and sensational way. She is the mediator between the world and the gods of there on making. If she stopped introducing people to these gods, the people that desire these gods would boot her out of her media empire and replace her with a new TV mediator.

If you want to pray for Oprah’s conversion, thats fine. But don’t think for a moment that her conversion would change anything. If Oprah started preaching the good news of Jesus Christ to her followers, they would do the same thing they have done when hearing the gospel before, that is, deny the message and persecute the messenger.

(MN: I’m thinking in a more tactical sense. You are quite right. If she becomes a Christian, the first thing she is likely to do, as she begins to mature, is dump a lot of what she puts on the show. That of course will mean that the show’s popularity and influence plummet. She will likely, if she is saved and actually beginning to mature in the faith, dump the show and dump most of the ungodly things that keep her popular with a huge income.

Were she to become a real live Christian, one of the things that should eventually happen is a diminishing of the influence of the program. If she actually becomes a Christian, she will, more and more as she matures, persevere in righteousness and a pursuit of the truth. And that is an important thing.

Is someone likely to take her place? Sure. But what has that to do with Oprah, her soul, and the current influence she exercises? God may never ever save her. If she is not of the Elect she will die in her sins and spend eternity in hell. However, I don’t know who is elect and I am not willing to dismiss her because of what she MIGHT do or who she MIGHT associate with if she does in fact become a child of God.

If she begins to promote the message of Jesus Christ and is persecuted it only demonstrates that the Word of God is true. Why is this a bad thing. Remember, I am not saying pray for Oprah so her show can be as big an influence for Christ as it has been for the devil. That seems the be the assumption on your part of what I and others are saying. Some may be saying that. But I certainly am not.

The assertion that she will then appear on TBN assumes a couple of things:

1. The profession she makes automatically means she goes in the direction of the pimps. I don’t think there is sufficient authority from Scripture to make this assumption. Zacheus (you know, that famous tax collector) gave up an awful lot of his riches. Why would you assume that Oprah would respond any differently to a real live encounter with Jesus Christ? Paul, a pharisee of pharisees, gave up everything. Can’t Christ do the same thing with her. The fact that some who claim a supposed salvation have gone haywire, is not enough to assume that Oprah will after an true conversion.

2. That God cannot act sovereignly in her life to move her in the direction she should go.

Both, I believe, greatly deny the power of God, or show a somewhat distorted view of what it means to be saved. )

Oprah has been linked (financially) to quite a few churches in Chicago. Trinity is one…the other is Bishop Brazier’s.

Bishop Braziers! I used to go to the Bishop’s church when I was young, to go mess with the young girls that I knew. Being born and raised under the tutelage of Bishop Horace E. Smith of Apostolic Faith (38th St.). I used to see alot of Christain celebs come to their church and would often wonder why some of the only time these saints get super-exited was when Kirk Franklin or Vickie Winans was performing. The younger girls would go into a frenzy and would sometimes have to be carried out. When I’d go on a sunday that Bishop Brazier was preaching. We could hardly hear a pin drop. This is before their new edifice had been completed. So I kinda know about the ’superstar appeal’ that these churches have.

I apologize that I don’t have any documented proof. As a Chicagoan, I can tell you that the Tribune will stretch the truth or make random things scandalous to sell papers. My neighbors have been members for over 20 years and I’ve attended only weddings there. A lot of Chicago celebrities attend it because it’s a very large and beautiful church but this is the first time I ever heard of Oprah being a member.

(MN: Not a problem. And you are right. Newpapers often get it wrong whether by accident or on purpose. That is one reason I don’t generally use news stories for sources, not until the info has had time to be verified across a fairly wide spectrum. I prefer the info I use come from the pimp’s own mouth. )

Oprah’s connection to the race cult J. Wrong built has been mentioned on programs where J. Wright Wrong was interviewed on camera after the statement was made. Never has he claimed it to be false. Never has Oprah claimed it to be false.

If the newspaper got this one wrong, I highly doubt Oprah would let it slide. Oprah allow herself to be associated with this falsely, yea right!

When I was at Eddie Long’s club, I got there as they are around 10,000-12,000 members, as a lay member, I didn’t know all the celebrities that were also members. I heard about some later that were confirmed to have been members, that I never saw at a club meeting.

Like I said earlier, celebs love big, beautiful churches and I’m sure Oprah has visited and donated but she isn’t a member. Trinity is one of those kind of a big deal churches and the membership is like a who’s who of Chicago and if she was a true blue member and attended every Sunday and name on the register. It would have been common knowledge in Chicago.
Also, keep in mind that was just a soundbite not even the whole sermon. I can appreciate the black awareness that Rev. Wright is all about I just personally believe that I can take a black studies class for that not go to church. I don’t like when people make their sermons political but it was under different circumstances I agree with a lot of Rev. Wright says about bettering ourselves and getting educated.

TISH please read the comments below. I’ve found proof of her being a member there and her claiming it herself to Ebony magazine.

Again, with mega-churches, often there are people there many don’t know of. I’ve seen this sort of thing before, but she was a member and J. Wrong himself has affirmed she walked down and asked to join herself.

I also have a link to analysis of a FULL SERMON from J. Wrong below as well.

TISH, Liberation Theology (in the USA commonly Black Liberation Theology) is heresy, that is what J. Wrong proudly proclaims and teaches. It is his doctrine and he’s said it is himself and his sermons make it obvious. It is a false doctrine. Even the Cult of Mary (Roman Catholicism) which spawned it has deemed it heresy, after they found they had sanctioned a monster although Roman Catholicism is a monster its self.

TISH, I’ve been keeping track of J. Wrong before this year. I’ve known of him for some time now. Researched his “church” web site. Seen other video of him. Even seen video of the new guy taking over. I know a good bit about that club although I don’t live next door to it, they make plenty available. Which is why the media is having a field day with them, as they should.

It’s a Black race cult. God does not share his glory with celebrations of skin tone, 2 Corinthians 10:12-18. It plays up things other than being of Christ, Colossians 3:9-11. It promotes anti-government propaganda, while saints are to respect government, Romans 13.

And I could pull more evidence direct from J. Wrong’s own deeds, things the media is not talking about, but I’ll stop there.

Righter agrees that big name celebs attend megachurches because Ray Lewis went to Empowement Temple when I was a member.

Righter will admit that she was glad cause she could have used some tickets for the experience of attending a pro game.

Problem is, she really isn’t “that much” of a football fan and didn’t know what he looked like so couldn’t ask for the tickets! lol

I don’t disagree with you at all, IC about Rev. Wright being unappropriate. I asked my neighbor who has been a member as long I can remember was Oprah a member and she laughed. She said and quote “if you wanna call it that”. I’ve only been to Trinity for weddings and I appreciate the history but at the same time there is a time and place and the pulpit isn’t the place. Now when it comes to America and our foreign policies and the past treatment of minorities, I agree with him. I don’t see what that has to do with my salvation or my soul that’s what I don’t like about it being at church. That’s just my opinion.

R4C, Worldchamp1 & TISH -

I’m another former South Sider (107th & Eggleston/Normal Ave.)! I’ve been in the ATL since 1994…

Sorry Melvin - I don’t have any pertinent info to add to this post (I’ll pray for Oprah as well). Others have done a great job to date…

I just wanted to shout out my fellow Chicagoans…

TISH,

As much as I would enjoy that, I was thinking more of conversing cyber-style, as my military career has me closer to where speakingtruth is living (Athens, GA, about an hour away from the ATL area). So I’ll take a rain check until I visit again, as it’s been about 13 years since I lived there…It’s so refreshing to know that some people from my city are interested in sound biblical theology and a pimpless representation of the gospel…I look forward to your further thoughts and comments on the many issues we discuss here on the site…

Solus Christus,

Righter questioned that too Melvin. Only because the article stated that the membership rolls included “the likes Ophrah Winfrey. Not to say that she is or isn’t, I just didn’t feel that that one “phrase” was basis enough for a conclusion to be formed one way or the other.

I have queried and found nothing substantial. The following Ny Times article says she has attended services. Now I know we are talking about Chicago, but papers do mistate the facts at times.

New York Times

After searching, I still don’t know if it is true or not because must of the discussion is being done on blogs.

Thus, it is looking like an urban legend at this point because all I can find is two articles from the Tribune that say this.

Oprah is big time and more would be out there, I think. In addition, methinks she doesn’t belong to any church and instead is promoting the agenda that is listed in the topic.

(MN: Newsmax - Oprah once a congregant (IC’s Used to attend); The Star Telegram; Alan colmes, in talking to Wright, stated that Oprah was a congregant, here. I am willing to look at it as “was a member.” But it’s a stretch to say she was never a member. )

Melvin, the only thing about all of this is that Oprah has been exposed to the gospel. She says that she was raised in a Baptist church. She says that she was feeling “all spiritual” (or something like that) until she heard that God was a jealous God. That is when she began turning her back on Christianity. I applaud you for being concerned about her eternity, because God did say in His Word that “all souls are Mine” and “I would that none should perish”, but at the same time, the Word says that any who put their hands to the plow and look back are not worthy of the kingdom of God. Nothing wrong with praying for Oprah, but I see her as Lot’s wife. She looked back, and lost her life. Oprah is like Orpah, Ruth’s sister-in-law, who went back to the sin of her past, and is never heard of again. I will say again, nothing wrong with praying for Oprah, but….

2008-03-16 22:24:21

The prodigal son came up in a good home and left it, but he did return home eventually, Luke 15.

Only the Lord knows if she is one given to Him by the Father, John 6:37-44. If so, God will call her to His Son at the moment He predestination for her to be granted repentance, Romans 8:29-30.

None given to the Lord Jesus by the Father will be lost, John 10:27-30. At this point it does not look like Oprah is one, but there is still a possibility that God may grant her repentance.

Melvin, thank you for your site. I found it several weeks ago while looking up info on some WordFaith ‘preachers’. The information you share has been a blessing.
I’m a little confused on an intitial comment you made regarding Oprah not ‘having a clue’. Wanted to comment yesterday, but held off and prayed about it.
I see that “Tee” has expressed my exact concerns about Oprah. She has admitted to being exposed to the gospel, hearing and reading the word of God.

(MN: As an unsaved person, she is blinded by the god of this world. The good news of the Gospel is foolishness to her. She isn’t clueless because she never heard it. She is clueless because she can’t understand it, can’t comprehend the glory of what is being offered her in contrast to the trash Tolle is presenting. )

Thank you “Tee” for bringing up the example of Orpah (which I had forgotten; I will re-read).
Just a digression (and if I recall correctly) I once heard Oprah say that her actual name is “Orpah” on her birth certificate…and somewhere along the way, people kept misspelling it, so she changed her name.
I’ll pray for her as well.
Again, thank you for your site.

Man, many of these black baptist churches do not teach their congregants anything. As I said before on another post, most black baptists, are traditionally DUMB when it comes to the gospel, and why they believe what they believe. All these folks know is that they are BAPTIST, more so than they are christian.

Yes Oprah is on her way to hell and most of black hollywood. I am originally from Los Angeles so I know some of them in that industry, those black folks grew up in the church but where never saved to begin with. You know they attend the big mega mess churches in L.A. that does not teach biblical Christianity but hocus pocus religion or what they call chrisitianity.

More solid proof Oprah WAS a member of Jeremiah Wrong’s club for years. From the 1980’s till about 1994. (That one has quotes from JW himself. So I don’t think anyone else can question her being a member there for years.)

It’s interesting that he’s bashing Oprah, while he keeps Common not only as a member, but let him rap one of his hack sermons.

I guess if you pay him a little homage, then he’ll let you get away with whatever without bashing you. (Even let Common thank God for a role in a gangster movie from his pulpit!) But if you leave, then he’s going to play the traditional role and claim the person strayed and didn’t want to pay him 10% .

I did a little analysis of JW’s sermon that inspired Obama. Liberation Theology is like the brother of Prosperity Doctrine. Both are twisted, dangerous doctrines. Both attempt to turn Jesus into a tool for man’s use.

I must admit that I like Common as a rapper (though i dont cut for all of his lyrics) b/c he definitely can bring the flow, but to have him do a freestyle at the church (i mean gathering) is questionable especially when you hear his views about God, Muhammed, Allah on his “Finding Forever” album. I think that most black folk left the discernment line when God was offering it and went over to the “I’m Black & I’m Proud” line for seconds.

2008-03-19 13:39:13

In 1997 Common said: One Day It’ll All Make Sense

I fight, with myself in the ring of doubt and fear
The rain ain’t gone, but I can still see clear
As a child, given religion with no answer to why
Just told believe in Jesus cause for me he did die
Curiosity killed the catechism
Understanding and wisdom became the rhythm that I played to
And became a slave to master self
A rich man is one with knowledge, happiness and his health
My mind had dealt with the books of Zen, Tao the lessons
of the Koran and Bible,
to me they all vital
And got truth within ‘em, gotta read them boys
You just can’t skim ‘em, different branches of belief
But one root that stem ‘em, but people of the venom try to trim ‘em
And use religion as an emblem
When it should be a natural way of life
Who am I or they to say to whom you pray ain’t right?
That’s who got you doin’ right and got you this far
Whether you say “in Jesus name” or “Al hum du’Allah”
Long as you know it’s a being that’s supreme to you
You let that show towards others in the things you do
Cause when the trumpets blowin’, 24 elders surround the throne
Only 144,000 gon get home

If he still holds to that view, he does not know the truth of Christ.

Righter isn’t trying to be difficult but this article says that she never completed the membership and only attnded for a while.

Says Wright, “She walked the aisle to become a member, publicly claimed us as her church in Ebony magazine, and when I would run into her socially, like at a United Negro College Fund dinner, she would say, ‘Here’s my pastor!’” But Oprah never completed the membership classes and after awhile her attendance dropped off.

2008-03-18 20:41:17

Righter, consider it a common law membership if that works for you, regardless of her proclaiming herself a member in public and walking up to be taking in as a member. She was going there for years.

She was under his false Liberation Theology teachings for years, that is the crux of this. And she proudly proclaimed him her pastor in public.

So for Righter it’s whatever Righter wants it to be in the mind of Righter :???: , but for me, her, J. Wrong and for most of the reporting world she was a member.
