Absolutely... You can tell that she was totally embarrassed at her new hubby's weak, effeminate display of bootleg 'holay ghossss takeovah'! At my wedding the guests were praising the Lord in song and in spirit. No one acted a fool, out of order and the wedding still brings tears to my eyes when I watch it. You can tell that The Lord was present at my event (boasting in Him of course).

Agreed Laura.........while cultural/national/political paradigms may shift, spiritual ones do not. Men are still now as they ever were: depraved God-haters who would all reject Him were it not for God's Sovereign Election.

That being the case, spiritual issues are not subject to change as cultural/historical issues are subject to change. No matter when or where men were born, they are born enemies of God. No matter where or when men were born, the solution to their spiritual doom doesn't change because all men everywhere have only one recourse for their sin, and that's Christ.

Church is not a national/cultural issue that can be set aside, because (as Derrick is so fond of pointing out) the church is a spiritual entity. Paul knew that too (as does everyone else with a Bible), and yet he continually called everyone to be joined to a local body under the leadership of Elders.

Paul was well aware that the church was not a building, but believers. And he commands all believers to be under the spiritual authority and discipline of Elders. That is not cultural, nor national. It's spiritual.

I thought that was strange too, Gary, since I said nothing about natural life. Maybe I need to clarify. Derrick, I think that if someone continually refuses to join himself with a local congregation, he is in SPIRITUAL danger. In other words, he is in danger of being one of those mentioned in 1 John 2:19 -- someone who looks saved but is not in fact saved.

Does Salvation end at the first century too?? Because the letters about that were addressed to first century people too Derrick. How precisely do you cherry pick which parts of the Bible are only for first century folks??

Melanie,

Please reread Seekerman's comment preceding my response to him to get the context of what we were discussing. The point is that not every man who shows emotions or any emotional behavior whether its jumping, shouting, weeping, outwardly praising God or working seven years for a woman (such as Jacob did for Rachael) and the like for love is not a sign of weakness or being “effeminate” (i.e. acting like a woman, sissy, girlish or in feminine behavior).

CSST, "Jacob lifted up his voice and wept"--that is all that particular scripture says about his emotional behavior. I don't understand the point you are trying to make. Are you saying that brief description of Jacob's response in seeing Rachel is comparable to what we saw on the clip?

The man in the clip is understandably overjoyed at getting married. And I don't think anyone would begrudge someone expressing themselves when they are happy or even sad. But I think the point others have been making is that this particular response as displayed on the video clip is something that is duplicated and conjured up on a regular basis in Charismatic/Pentecostal circles. And if that is the case, then would you say this man's emotional response was genuine or even an emotional response at all? I don't think so. Just something to consider.

Greetings Seekerman,

I hear where you're coming from. Me and my husband watched the video and we did not see the brother acting in an "effeminate" manner.

Rhetorical question? When Kobe Bryant makes a great move on the court, puts the ball into the basket, majority of men (in Kobe's favor) will jump up, shout, hug (maybe kiss one-another) and high-five one another. Same with baseball and football or other sports event. Many will say that they were genuinually emotionally caught-up in the game and they are not effeminate in their behavior.

Ok, my point is who is anyone to say how this man should act in celebration of him getting married to the one he loves. He seemed to be emotionally and spiritually charged (caught-up) in marrying his wife-to-be. I don't believe this video was meant for the whole world to see, but unfortunately it was made available as an humorous wedding event that happened.

However, we don't know how long this man had to wait to marry the love of his life e.g. him and his fiance went through godly pre-marital counseling for months and the long wait of abstinance, and so forth. My husband and I believe this brother's emotional-spiritual reaction was the release and joy of celebrating God and His Word that he now can share his life with the woman he has long-awaited for. His bride did not seem to be disturbed, but seemed very solemn (sincere) in her demeaner--not bothered, but pleased through her smile.

Consider Jacob's emotional behavior when he first met Rachael and worked to marry Rachael--which was love and joy not effeminate.

Excerpts of Gen 29:9-11, 15,18, 20, 27-28

9) And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them. 10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

15 ¶ And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Le'ah, and served with him yet seven other years.

S.Jones, unless you are attempting to be sarcastic, you need to give some contextually and BIBLICALLY correct basis for your statement.

As you should see by now, statements such as yours usually do not get posted without rebuttal, with the goal to have spiritually sound and intellgent discussion surrounding what MANY in this thread has rightfully denounced.

MN, you make a good point, but I think if we really knew what we entering into, what we would see is a separation of the "men" from the "boys".

Those who truly understand the marriage covenant (and accepted it) would show up at the altar and rest would not show up at all.

Sola Scriptura,

well i know it was just me, but when my brother, who was filming my wedding asked me how i felt, as if on cue, i started singing, "i feel pretty" (from west side story). all of the jitters kicked in later.
as for the couple in the video, i hope they're doing well.

I'm doing good Stan. Seeing this old Morton video brings back memories. Thank God for mercy and getting me out of that crowd who I used to be with in places like that, cheering those pimps and their heresy.

He even used Martin Luther King Junior's "unity" (BAAL) speech about a Mountaintop. Universalism heresy that many act like was a message straight from God to MLK Jr's lips. Morton knows he'll always get their emotions bringing that up!

The old "get out your comfort zone" so you can get your (material) "blessing".

The old "speak it" game.

The cat sound effects...

For them, God is only showing them "favor" when they have riches coming in. They don't talk about being favored for eternal life, they're too busy worrying about how they can "expand" their "territory".

He did all that talking about "walking on water". How many times in almost 10 minutes did he mention KEEP YOUR EYES ON CHRIST? He's too busy looking to what he can get.

He even used Martin Luther King Junior’s “unity” (BAAL) speech about a Mountaintop. Universalism heresy that many act like was a message straight from God to MLK Jr’s lips. Morton knows he’ll always get their emotions bringing that up!

The old “get out your comfort zone” so you can get your (material) “blessing”.

The old “speak it” game.

The cat sound effects…

For them, God is only showing them “favor” when they have riches coming in. They don’t talk about being favored for eternal life, they’re too busy worrying about how they can “expand” their “territory”.

He did all that talking about “walking on water”. How many times in almost 10 minutes did he mention KEEP YOUR EYES ON CHRIST? He’s too busy looking to what he can get.

I blogged about that very thing recently, brother -- the idea that if a person steadfastly refuses to join himself with a local body, he's putting his spiritual life in serious jeopardy.

May I link to my blog here, Melvin? Here's my post about church membership and church discipline.

(MN: I would be honored Laura. Nice posting by the way. I'm sending DTG and MSAMU over right now so they can stand at your virtual doorstep and make impolite noises. )

Hello IC. How you doing? I have seen your article about Paul Morton. I believe I found him on YouTube then looked him up on your blog. I did not know about how deep he was into the promotion of so many false preachers out there until I read what you posted. I made some comments on the same video you embedded in your blog and they initiated some replies, but they didn't go very far. His supporters had a hard time defending him (naturally), without ad hominem.

He did one on getting out of the boat, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z06fAXer1Vk&feature=related which I could not let go by without showing how empty his premise was and how poor the exegesis was. It was all flash and histrionics to make an unbiblical point.

Hey Melvin can we get a Church Membership Post. I think Michael, Derrick, Saiko, IC and myself (Laura also) are using different words to define the same thing. No one is talking about a building, no one is talking about signing anything we are talking about a group of believers who come together to worship God, administer the ordiances and spur one another on to Love and Good deeds, and just as importantly employing the Gifts given to you by the Spirit for the edification of the "Body" of our Lord. This is to be done a scheduled place in a scheduled time and is to be practiced regualrly. This is the what the bible calls the "church" we all know the Greek so we aren't going to play that game; however, the word for a local assembly is the same for the universal body and the local assemblies purpose is to represent the universal. We can't play games with what the bible says.

If someone tells me "I don't have to do that" then I would challenge their commitment to Christ. I almost border on the line of calling them a non-Christian. If you don't love what Christ loves, if you don't do what Christ says, and we don't love WHO Christ loves the way Christ COMMANDS us to love them then it may be evident that we are not of Christ. This isn't about Pastors, Bishops, Church Buildings, Pledge Cards, or anything else. This is about who Christ purchased with His blood which is the Church universal; but locally worked out.

Hello Righter. I didn't follow your post very well, so let me try this again: I think the music is cheap. I used the word music because it's an organ in the background doing the "rim shot" effects. However, if you don't think it should be called music, I may have to agree with you there. So, what would you call those organ chords at the end of the preacher's sentences?

It's because Melvin is so tall, most people can't lift their camera high enough while looking in that view finder, in order to get a full face shot :D .

I guess I should have taken a picture when I saw you Melvin :D .

Nobody claims signing a marriage certificate is legalism.

And Laura was correct to note how 1 Corinthians 5 requires someone to have been a MEMBER of something with RULES and certain STANDARDS in order for them to be kicked out of it. What is "it"? The local church.
