As one of the hosts of Stand Up Ministry said - bring your Bible, paper, and a pencil. Oh, and leave your dancing shoes at home.
melville, i went to the site but couldn’t find the starting time. so, what time should we get there? i’m trying to round up a sitter.
The conference starts @ 7pm Friday night. Sat from 2-6pm & Sun from 10-2pm I believe. Hope to see you there.
Mel,
You need to make a correction. You said December instead of November 30th.
(MN: Thanks. November 30th)
I hope this event is videod and made available to those of us across the pond. The UK needs such an event desperately.
It seems you are big on who people associate with. This young lady serves under an “Apostle” and a female Pastor two things I have seen you do not believe in. Yet she is featured on the Stand Up site? This quote is from her information page. Please explain why no one has convinced her of the error in the leadership she follows and why you are associated with her.
“After wandering in the wilderness for a season her loving spirit and giving nature led her to Bread of Life Fellowship in North Babylon. There, under the leadership of Apostle Randy Brown and Pastor Gayle Brown, she makes her Church home.”
(MN: I’d rather you put a name out there rather than remaining anonymous.
And yes, you are right, there are inconsistencies that I do have trouble with. Interestingly, Tim Butler has begun going through the folks and is actually cutting ties with some of them. Your reaction is an excellent example of why that should be done. And it’s one I fully agree with.
I’ve been working on a posting entitlee “The Essentials. Or: What Would I Be Willing to Burn at the Stake For?” It should be posted by this evening. I’m just about done putting the finishing touches on it.
Your comment could not have come at a more opportune time. )
My Apologies, I hit add without thinking and forgot to leave a name. Long time reader this was my first comment.
I saw that too but I didn’t want to “start nothing” —
(MN: People, people, people! Haven’t you learned yet that this is the PLACE to start something? Have you been with me all these years and not learned that you should always speak up? )
I want to piggy-back on what Bro. Melvin mentioned and say that as Chief Editor of Standup Ministry, we are currently revising and implementing new methods to ensure that anyone that wishes to become a part of the ministry [Standup] will agree with the doctrinal principles set forth by our ministry. Thank you anonymous for your concern and Berean-like attitide to protect the body of Christ against heresy and to stand up for the truth in an age of deception.
Now Melvin,
You and I both know that just because “I” say something–it is automatically wrong! lol
I am new to this website and this is the first time that I have posted a comment. I attended the conference this past weekend. I am a bit of a perfectionist which is funny to me because if you looked at my office and my apt you would not see perfection :-). So I looked at everything with a perfectionist eye and I saw mistakes and I felt embarrassed for how some people behaved. But then I had to reflect and think to myself and ask are you perfect? No. Do you do everything correctly? NO way. So I tried to put on an attitude of love and compassion and in so doing I realized what a blessing this conference truly was with all its hiccups and problems. This is how the body is …some are more mature than others and we don’t get everything right. But we all should have those unities discussed in Eph. 4:1-6. Okay now I am rambling. But I want to hear from others who attended the conference. What was your reaction? Is there anything that you want to change in your life as a result? I walked away encouraged to continue to stand boldly for truth and if I have to stand alone then so be it but at the same time I realized I am not alone. These are perilous times ya’ll and perhaps only a remnant will make it. Okay I am rambling again…
(MN: Notice what the commenter said: “Is there anything YOU want to change in your life?” I told you the conference wasn’t going to change your life. Only you, in obedience to God can change your life. And that change will take time. The pimps will tell you it’s going to be a life changing experience. The true shepherds encourage you to study, pray, and do.
BTW - It was good to meet you and it’s good to see you out here. If you would, tell the people what you saw that was a bother and we can see what other folks take on it was as well. If I can stomp the lazy demons under my feet, I’m going to work up a report along with pictures a couple of videos, and some other stuff. It should be out…uh…soon. Yeah, that’s it! It should be out soon. )
As I reflect back on the conference the word “mistake” is too hard a word. But a suggestion would be to have folks submit questions prior to the conference and then have the panel answer those burning questions that have been on people’s minds and hearts but perhaps have not been addressed in local churches. I am Joanna-come lately, essentially new to everything, but taking questions from the floor after someone has preached and taught from the word of God can be a recipe for disaster. I am going back and forth with this in my own mind because it seems to me that Stand Up Ministry is about being bold regarding truth so you want to encourage folks to speak up. But perhaps there is a better way to handle Q&A. All in all that was the only “issue” that I saw and it wasn’t even major. I hope to see another conference in the near future.
And Melvin I am not holding my breath on those pics and videos. I went to the black and reformed website and saw some video from the conference. At least I think that is where I saw it. But don’t quote me.
(MN: As a note, it was in fact my intention to do the index card method for Q and A so that more control could be maintained. I wanted to avoid exactly the hiccups that occured. And I like the idea of the “Burning Questions” category as well.
By the way, go to YouTube ans search on Newark and standup. I uploaded the videos for all to see. The sound isn’t always that great, but I believe one of them has an image of you walking in the background. )
Hello everyone, I attended the conference this weekend and it was very encouraging. 1. I learned to be humble when discussing certain topices 2. I learned to “Stand Up” no matter what the cause may be 3. Hermeneutics was the most interesting and the most difficult part of the conference for me. I am now interested in taking courses in Hermeneutics.
Free books and CDs and DVDs were given out, a great book that was given out is called “What is a Healthy Church” by Mark Dever. Well it was just great to meet other Christain brothers and sisters who may have been victim to false dictrines or who are just “Stading Up”. Its been a blessing.
To Jahnea,
I really appreciated the Hermeneutics discussion as well. I have found Understanding and Applying the Bible by Robert McQuilkin and How to Study Your Bible by Kay Arthur to be helpful over the years.
hi melanie & jahnea,
i attended the stand up conference also but could only make it to friday nite. i really would have liked to attend all 3 days but urgent matters at home prevented me. i thought saiko and sean were very good speakers. i especially enjoyed sean’s teaching on the fear of God- it was very sobering and ministered to me in a personal way- i will mention more of what i got out of it on my own blog. i was glad to meet mel, tyris, and brenda and had i been able to stay longer, we too, would have met. i thought it was really nice that so many traveled from all around the country to be there. i thought i would get to fellowship some more after the q&a period, i even brought my camera with me but didn’t get a chance to use it. Lord willing, perhaps next time i’ll get to attend the conference fully and meet some more of the pp bloggers. even though we missed one another, i’m glad you both were blessed by it.
Someone made a statement that believers should be excited to come together and that’s exactly how I felt. When I first heard they were putting a conference together. I couldn’t wait. It was an awesome experience and am looking forward to the next one. Despite the strong emotions that were shown from some, it confirmed there are those who have a deep passion for truth. As the saying goes’ it’s not always what you say, but how you say it. I think once we learn (because we all have to learn) how to express ourselves in love. Then what one has to share can be recieved in a caring way.
For this to be the 1st conference I feel it went very well. I look forward to participating and contributing to make the next, and the next, and the next, better and better. Great job mcing Mr. Melvin….for the most part you were able to keep everything on track.
It was great to put faces with some of the bloggers here and from their own sites. There was free material, the conference was free, and the hotel rate was reasonable. It was well worth the 3hr drive I took alone from Baltimore to Newark. For which I would do it again in a heart beat.
Thank you Stand Up and all the attendee’s for a meat-filled weekend.
Brenda it was great just as you mentioned. I really enjoyed the fellowship and the Zenith was having the PASTORS serve communion. How rare is that??? I am going to put some pictures on my site of you(Melvin) and PJ. You make little PJ look like a kid. Had no idea you were so tall Melvin. Praise God for your patience Melvin because I would have had a certain someone in a headlock for their graceless conversation. LOL Love you brother In Christ
Tyris…
I peeped in on your site. Not sure if my comment posted. I tell you my brother it was soooo refreshing to come in contact with you and brother Sean.(I think that was the brother with you name). Coming across young bold brothers such as yourselves is very rare today. Yet very needed. To be able to fellowship with wise teachers such as Pastor John, Pastor Saiko, Pastor Sean, Pastor Tim, Pastor Miller, Bro. Steve, Mr. Melvin and all the other wise older gentlemen present. Gives me hope that morden day Paul’s are on the raise. Be encouraged all you mighty men of God. You are truely a blessing to the body of Christ seeking rightly divided truth’s.
p.s not to forget to shout out the SISTERS who represented. Mrs. Woods, Ms Bobbi, Mrs Mav, sisters from MO,DC,FL,NY, NJ and last but not least BMORE..
I look forward to bro. Tyris presenting at the next conference….smilessss
