after reading dozens of comments on this site, I realized something very sad, when You, Melvin describe yourself and your issues with 'church' one thing is evident: you do not have the Love of Christ in your heart, and from this web site, you appear to be someone who has an extensive knowledge of the Bible, but never the discernment, or dwelling of the Holy Spirit. That is really sad. You have so much contempt for men of God and have negative comments for anyone affiliated with them that you do not display any type of Love in your words or commentary on scripture or anything related to Christ.

If you have made your life work out of hating what you feel is a bad, 'pimp' of a preacher, you have made your self nothing short of the same, showing contempt, and open criticism for God's people when the Bible warns against people like you. 2 TIM 3:8 (since you are such the scholar) Knowing the Bible is one thing I give you credit for, but you can have 1,000 web sites and argue about scripture, complain because God has blessed a group of Christians for having a nice place to worship, (just why does that make you so angry) and pick apart any minister you encounter and criticize each and every sermon.

But as you post your bio on this site, you have never mentioned prayer, and you sound as if you are a needy, insecure, very co-dependent person, looking for some perfect formula that will allow you to think you are saved because as you say you have wasted and spent so much time at various Churches. Just as Hospitals are for the sick, Church is for those who need it.

I think you missed the point. We Christians are the "Body of Christ" and as Christ dwells in us, we are the Church. So as you call the members of these various Churches stupid, and unable to pick up a Bible and lack having the Spirit of Discernment provided by the Holy Spirit, I just want you to know that I am praying for you to be delivered from the spirit of deception that seems to have you believe you have a form of godliness, and that one day you truly receive the Holy Spirit, so you won't have to run from church to church or be afraid of speaking in tongues and maybe you would not spend so much time writing such treacherous, rash, conceited, slanderous, unloving things about others who happen to be Christians (unless you have discovered a Christian detector in all of your travels that you can use to determine which of us are truly believers), and focus on truly spreading the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus says we can be identified by the fruit we bear, you must be a rotten lemon tree!

Angela - you are in such a hard place. I will tell you a bit of my story as encouragement - I hope it does just that:

I'm not from New York City but married a New Yorker. I moved here after giving up my home, cars, and job. Everything was just fine until about 2 months into the marriage when my first name became 4-letter words. I was then told to get out or he would have someone beat me in the streets and I would not be able to prove that he'd done it. This was after I called the police about him getting physical. So, I left - me and a 100 lb. Dobie named, Lady. I had just started a job the Tuesday before, and this was Thursday. I had less than $1, no family here, no friends, and nowhere to go. No valid ID and my "husband" refused to let me have the marriage license so that I could get ID to be able to get my life straight. Well, let me tell you about my God; my manager put us up for 2 weeks until I could get paid. I then got an apartment.

That was 10 years ago. I have since bought my own co-op, furniture, etc. I'm a living testimony that our God is ALMIGHTY. I wish you could have heard the disbelief in his lawyer's voice when I called to have the divorce papers served to me, and he found out that I'm working right here in Manhattan. He could not believe that I was actually living here after what "Sir Gallahad" had done. Well, "Sir Gallahad" is no match for Jesus Christ and he has suffered severe consequences for his actions. So, take it from one who has been there:

Do what Sbrenea said.

I hope this isn't too long-winded, but I want you to know that He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, more than we ask for. We are always challenged with trials - but He is Faithful. He never gives us more than we can handle. There is nothing that He can not do and no situation that He can not turn around. So treat Him as He is - The Most High God Who is Worthy of our faith in Him.

I'm praying for you,

Hello blessed,

Scripture does not support your position:

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 (ESV)
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. "Purge the evil person from among you."

Blessed-

You are deceived. The Word tells us to look and examine those who say they teach the Word of God.
Matthew 7:15-20

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."

The scripture starts with "Watch out", what do you think that means? It means to listen, study, examine, even judge the teachings. Later in the verses it states, "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." I believe that it commands us to uncover and expose those who teach a false gospel.

I love my pastor and his teachings of the Word. BUT I examine and judge everything he teaches with the Word of God. If he ever presented anything that added to the Gospel of Christ I would question it. If he continue to teach it I would warn those around me and I would leave the church.

Please study the Word more and be sure you are no longer deceived

You all are some true HATERS to be gossiping about people of God (it's not your place to judge no one)!!! If you don't have haters then you're not doing nothing in life!!! Ha, ha get a life & maybe you all can start experiencing blessings.

(MN: Okay, let me understand. Repeating what these people do, word for word, is gossip. Relaying to you what these people have done, and brag about having done, is gossip. Am I summarizing you accurately? What, exactly, is so evil about accurately quoting what these people have said and accurately reporting on what these people have publicly done?

Not only is it my place to judge righteous judgment, it's you place to judge righteous judgment as well. To refuse to do so is to be disobedient to your lord and master Jesus Christ.

And I guess I must be doing something in life because you sure do sound like a hater. )

I see that Hilliard pimps other pimps too. In 2006, I seen him on a christian network, giving a Pastoral Conference for those who wants to learn how to increase their ministry. The charge for each pastor was in the 200 dollar range. These dummy organizations are questionable, considering their lifestyle.

why won't my comments come up? (MN: Because I have to approve all comments before they are posted.)

I came across your website while I was looking for something else. Your Pimp of the Month column was interesting, especially your first nominee--Bishop Donald Hillard of the Cathedral International.

I visited the cathedral a few times with friends. After I left, I was sure that the holy reverend was the classic Pimp of the Pulpit but couldn't convince my friends that they were being taken.

So I investigated some things. Donald Hilliard fills his own pockets at the expense of his parishioners. He promotes his own products. He is listed as a non-profit but he's making a lot of money for himself through Donald Hilliard Ministries, Millennium Ministries, and the many, many, MANY umbrella organizations of which his is President and CEO.

This guy drives a Porche, wears diamond pinkie rings and designer suits. He built a home in Florida and like many other Pulpit Pimps, asks 10% tithing of EVERYTHING to the church. Then he asks for another $100 a month on top of the tithing. Then he says buy my books, CDs, audios, videos, text messages, TV shows, "conferences" and podcasts. And have your "donations" direct deposited from your paycheck, checkbook, savings account or credit card. If you read the web copy, you'll see that it says to "donate generously" to his "ministry." Not the Cathedral International church, but to HIS MINSTRY. (If you add up his non-profit statements, they showed more than half a MILLION DOLLARS for himself as "salary or travel or speaking engagements or gifts etc.", then more for his wife.)

He should be reported to the IRS because he is slick huckster who takes his parishioners for their hard earned money. And send his name to Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa of the Senate Finance Committee who is investigating these ministries.

If you read the web copy, you’ll see that it says to “donate generously” to his “ministry.” Not the Cathedral International church, but to HIS MINSTRY. (If you add up his non-profit statements, they showed more than half a MILLION DOLLARS for himself as “salary or travel or speaking engagements or gifts etc.”, then more for his wife.)

He should be reported to the IRS because he is slick huckster who takes his parishioners for their hard earned money. And send his name to Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa of the Senate Finance Committee who is investigating these ministries.

Well, I would like to thank you for nominating my pastor to Pimp of the Month!!! What an honor, for a man who has served the Lord with diligence. I am a product of Cathedral International and have watched as the church and Bishop Hilliard stand by the standard of holiness always confessing that God is the head of the church and that it is not his show but God's. I have watched as the church and the man you call the "PIMP OF THE MONTH" have put young people through college and take orphaned children into his own home, those are just to name a few.

So, I say all of that to say, thanks for the publicity! Please everyone rush out to Cathedral International located at 277 Madison Avenue in Perth Amboy, NJ at once! You may find more than a "Pimp and his Sheeple" my prayer is that you will find a LIFE!

It's sad to see that some of you made hatred as your life's focus.

(MN: So Lx, how is quoting these people, comparing what they say to Scripture, and accurately describing what they do to be equated with making hatred a focus of my life? Please be specific.

By the way, I can almost feel the hatred in your very brief comment. )

@Nigel....

Sadly, we do not agree. SBG is using a title, spiritual father. Father is a title, a parent. Son, however, is a male child, and therefore, as Paul used it, it was not a title.

Have you ever heard an elder say to a younger male, "son, listen to me", or, something of the like? He is using this term in lieu of saying something like, "young man, listen to me". You will never hear, nor has it been defined that Father is anything less than a title. We cannot conclude that, because Paul referred to Timothy as, 'my son in the faith', that Timothy referred to Paul as, 'his spiritual father'.

When you read Matthew 23 in context, you will realize that Jesus is talking about the religious leaders. SBG is talking about her religious leader, and has, therefore, given him a title that is against Scripture.

I don't say this in an attempt to bring offense, but as saints of God, it would behoove us to loose some of the 'churchanese' we speak to one another. It's not Biblical, and the Lord's rightful place becomes blurred and obscure when we place others before Him. It's called idolatry.

Where truth is optional, error becomes justifiable.

Agreed, hence I didn't think referring to someone as your spiritual father was an assigned or recognised title but it was being used in the same manner in which Paul used "son", illustratively. And 'spiritual' being used to diffrentiate from one's natural or carnal father, i.e your father in the faith.

@Nigel....

I actually don't see the correlation here, as Jesus, in Matthew 23:9, spoke expressly about titles to men, such as given the Pharisess and Scribes; while, in 1Timothy 1:2, Paul is using a term of description to one who is, literally, a child, in the faith. "Mine own son..." is not a title in this sense, as much as it is an illustration of Timothy's stance as being, compared to Paul, a youth.

I compare this again with Phillipians 2:2, where Paul says of Timothy, "like a son with a father, he has served with me in the Gospel". Again, this is an illustration, and not a title.

This may have posted already while I was having connection problems.

I need some clarification here. My first posittion is if there seems to be any contradiction or confusion in the Word of God that contradiction or confusion is due to my lack of understanding for the Word of God is inerrant. (I think inerrant is the correct word)

The question is when Paul referred to Timothy as his own son in the faith 1Ti 1:2 was Timothy his carnal son? Secondly, in Eph 6:1 could someone please clarify for me? I am under the impression that he refers to spiritual parents 1st then to carnal parents. There are other areas where Paul used himself as representing a parent and the members his children. (2 Co 12:14) In Ga 4:19 whilst upbraiding the Galatians he refers to them as children he travailed in birth.

For example when I became born again there was an elder who performed what I saw as the role of a parent advising, instructing, guiding, correcting, upbraiding and sometimes also consoling me using the word of God where and when necessary. At that point in time I came into a new environment as a child in the faith and for a lot of people they dont necessarily become born again along with their parents.

For me there is no worship or idolising there, just lots of love and respect. I am not defending the knee jerk reaction from "saved by grace" but this is a custom I am acquainted with in churches.

COP,

"When you as a grown man call another man DADDY, you cross the line from loyal follower to Idol worship."

How so? I still call my father Daddy and my mother Mummy. Please explain a little more for my benefit. Thanks

This is an interesting one for me. In some faiths I know that persons are referred to as someones spiritual father as opposed to their carnal father because that person functioned in the capacity of a parent when they became born again, nurturing , guiding, correcting, upbraiding all in the Word. How would this be in alignment with Paul's reference to Timothy as his own son in the faith? Or was Timothy actually Paul's son. 1 Ti 1:2 refers. Does Paul's statement in Eph 6:1 refer to the same type of parents in the following para? I am genuinely asking and not contending.

For me if there appears to be either conflict or confusion in the Word then the conflict or confusion is in my understanding, thats my first position, thus help a brother out.

Given your reference Mt 23:9 I need to have this issue squared away in my head.

SavedbyGrace....

Your comment referring to a minister as your 'spiritual' father, begs the question: then, who is your god? I intentionally left that in lower case so that you may give it some Biblical thought.

Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, clearly tells us to call no man father (Matthew 23:9); or, did you miss that Holy Script?

While I don't know this man from a can of Lucite High Gloss paint, rest assured, if he be anything concerning the Kingdom of God, he is at best, a servant.
