Ladies and gentlemen, this morning, when I logged onto the Pimp, there were over three hundred Spam messages. I had to look at each one of them to make sure they weren’t comments from you, the readers. Twenty minutes later, there were another 12 spam messages. Alas, I am the victim of that which is called a “Google Bomb.” And it appears only to be getting worse.
Unless someone out there has a better idea, I have decided to implement a log-in procedure. Don’t worry, it doesn’t cost anything, and you only have to log-in if you want to make a comment. This shouldn’t affect any of you lurkers at all, and should only require the more lugubrious of readers to actually type your name (it doesn’t have to be your real name) once. YOur browser should take care of the log-in after that.
Any ideas?

If “Yes,” then if the more lugubrious of readers types in a legitimate blogger’s name, won’t precious time be wasted by you comparing the e-mail address, or can this be done on your end w/deciphering software? What does your VOPWM say?
(MN: Everything, other than the log-in will be exactly the same. In fact, if your browser uses cookies, you should be able to log in with almost no effort on your part. I just got spammed with 8 more comments. I killed 6 and by the time I refreshed the screen there were two more waiting for me. )
Since the word of God is for our instruction (Romans 15:4), my prayer for this situation comes from
1 Samuel 14:6—”…the Lord is not restrained to save by many or by few,” and Hebrews 13:6b—”…The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?”

Sigh……………And I was just now beginning to feel the chains that bind me loosened a bit, but now we’ll have to be regulated to “Role Call” again…..but so be it. “G-Dub (G²)” is present and accounted for.
By the way, would there be a possible way to get software that could detect whether or not mail had Scripture inherent in it (like something similar to “Bible Gateway”?) and wouldn’t have to waste time even investigating EVERY email you see?
By the way, what were most of the Spam mail addresses as?
For all those loving the “Anonoymous” style of writing and dislike “TAGS”, best get all of your comments/issues in your minds out now, before you have to be registered/marked by the dictator to operate on the site……Again, speak now or forever hold your peace…..Blessings…..

Melvin, get the Wordpress SPAM prevention plugin called “Bad Behavior”. Also, turn off the ability to comment or ping to posts no longer on your front page. You will see the amount of SPAM drop to almost zero right away.
Turning off comments and pings on older posts can be done easily if you run a query to update the appropriate fields in your blog’s database. I can help if you need it.
Just turning off pings (ability for other sites to send trackbacks) might be enough, but I’m not sure, since I require login on my blog for people to comment.

I may have found a pretty good solution to my spam problem. I turned the ping off for all the posts. So far, in the last 4 hours, I have been hit with exactly three bogus comments.
If this is sufficient, I will leave it alone. If not, Independent Conservative told me about a spam plug-in that I may ask my VOPWM to activate for me.
But so far, it looks good.
