I’m beginning to think the Right Reverend Jamal-Harrison Bryant is losing his touch with reality. Either that or he wants to make sure he is the center of his congregation’s world. Neither of those options bodes too well for the people at the Empowerment Temple of Doom.
The Right Reverend now has a new campaign - get a daily text message from him. I guess I’m really kind of confused. What kind of power do I get when I text Jamal to 50555? While I can surely applaud the use of technology to stay in touch, this appears to be more of a case of using technology to keep people tied to you. Not quite the same concept.
What’s wrong with the low-tech option of encouraging people to read and study their Bible every day so they can get a word from - here’s a novelty - God.
Instead, we can stand by each day for some inane pablum from the Right Reverend.
In a fit of foolishness, I signed up for the service. Let’s see what comes up.
===================
Oh wait! I just got a response from the Temple. The message reads:
Reply with YES to confirm your 7 day free trial of Got Power? Up to 1 message/day. U will b billed 4.99/mo after ur trial. Optout anytime w/STOP.
Is it just me, or is the Right Reverend saying that it is going to cost me 4.99 a month to get power?
Okay - I sent the YES response. And I got back the following:
Thanks 4 joining Got Power? by Jamal Bryant. Enjoy the next 7 days of power as you experience Supernatural success. Expect the unexpected. 2 optout rply STOP.
He’s charging these people to get messages from him! You have to wonder how much of a cut he is getting from each of the text messages.
Here are a couple of screen shots of my very first message from the Right Reverend.
This man, though lacking the polish and pure smoothosity of T. Dexter, is a brilliant marketer. He is to be admired. Seeing something well done is always a pleasure.Of course, I wouldn’t want to be standing near him when the earth opens up and swallows him.
I give you a photo of my power message when I get one tomorrow.
WOW-
This is just sad…
I guess getting a text from Jamall is his version on exhortation.
Let’s suppose for a minute that Bryant has the true gift of encourgement, or may be he has a daily devotional that he has written…
If his job as a pastor is to build up the flock and encourge them, why would he charge people to send them text messages?
Many ministries send out daily devotions via email (FOR FREE) and for that matter I suppose you could get a devotion sent to your phone (standard text messing rates may apply)… but not setting up a service to make $5.00/month off your flock… I have to take issue w/ that.
Two things (and I will shut up):
1. I understand ministry cost money, but CHURCH should not be a BUSINESS! And it seems to me that He is about making money.
2. Technology has become the Pimps best friend…I thought it was bad enough to have Direct Debt Tithing, ATM machines in the church, charges for streaming video of Services, but now we have to pay for text messages from your pastor.
I wonder if Barnabas would charge people $4.99/month to encourge them in the Lord, if he were around today?
Speaking of inpropriaties, wanted to let you know that I will be working on a similar project such as yours but reduced to just a section on my site. Ihave had my eye on a couple of Pimps in the spanish speaking countries, especially in the lower rio grande valley (tx). This guy has been doing this for about twenty years and has at least 5 - 8 radio stations that he owns and propogate his prosperity theology. The sad thing is that I have personally met people from both sides of the border that have sold the title to their land in order to give this guy the money he needs so that he can send pieces of Benny Hinn’;s tie. (no Joke).
He is probably one of the few in that area that has an executive lear jet. I think its about time we expose this spanish pimp. Ill keep you updated.
DAVID M: Please go for it! Between you, Melvin , and other unsung faithfuls, we will all soon see the earth covered with God’s Word as the waters cover the seas!
What!!! That’s crazy!!!! And I do think it’s stupid to be in fellowship with someone who is Oness while you are a Trinitarian. And the doctrine of the Trinitarian is central to the Gospel message. I saw this guy: Gino N. Jennings, try to use word gymnastics to explain Oness. A Trinitarian needs to explain the Trinity because it’s right in the Bible in black and white.
Anyway thanks for exposing the Onesses people and pulpit pimps.
I was @ ET as a member when he announced the daily empowered word and he told the whole church to type in that number…. We received the “empowered” word and then it said, there is a 7 day trial and if not cancelled, the $4.99 fee would be billed. Me and my friend canceled right then and there, but I was utterly disgusted. I mean how many lazy people, like I can be at times when it comes to cancelling subscriptions, are going to forget to cancel and if you tell 10,000 people during church to pull out their cell phones and type this in without telling them first there is a fee involved, you are going to make a boat load of money based off of people who didnt want the service forgetting to cancel. I was so disgusted at that point.
