If you don’t believe you are simply a market to these bozos, let me point something out to you. Here is the appeal to advertisers (sponsors) for The ‘Mess 2006. Read it carefully. The original is here
On July 19-22, 2006, we will host our third annual MegaFest event in Atlanta, Georgia.
This event blends two separately successful nationally branded events (Woman, Thou Art Loosed and Man Power) that began in 1992 under the highly regarded T.D. Jakes brand. MegaFest also includes two youth components: MegaLand for children ages 5-12, and the MegaYouth Experience component for ages 13-21. T.D. Jakes branded-events have set attendance and economic records around the country including breaking the single event attendance record of 90,000 at the Georgia Dome. Previous T.D. Jakes branded events in Atlanta have grossed over $500,000 million for the local economy over the past three-years. The Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau stated that the amount was significantly more than the past three Atlanta-based Super Bowl events that totaled just $250 million.
This high-profile four-day, three-night festival receives national attention and will feature something for the entire family including: indoor/outdoor entertainment by Grammy award winning artists, comedy, spiritual enrichment, a separate youth, women’s and men’s component, a Celebrity breakfast, a Celebrity Golf tournament, sports and recreational activities, and a series of seminars and workshops that cover personal finance, relationships, home ownership, health and nutrition, and much, much more!
Our inaugural event attracted over 140,000 attendees daily from a multicultural audience that included families of with various incomes, over 20,000 teenagers and children, professionals, entrepreneurs, and a strong group of upwardly mobile and affluent individuals.
Are you ready to be a part of the MegaFest Experience???
I should point out that the terms he uses are those of the marketing world. Notice he refers to “Woman, Thou Art Loosed” and “ManPower” as national brandings. I thought these were spiritual events that will change your life forever. Now I come to find out they are national brandings.
He speaks of his activities, when talking to the advertisers, not as an anointed ministry. That’s the phraseology he uses when he’s talking to the marks. No, in actuality, according to Jakes, his “ministry” is a branding.
He goes on to describe the marketing accomplishments of the past MessMess conventions.
- They grossed over $500 million for the local area
- They broke the single event attendance record for the Georgia Dome
- Features Grammy winning entertainment
- Features a celebrity breakfast and golf tournament
- Attracted 140,000 people the first time
- Attracted 20,000 teens
- Attracts affluent and upwardly mobile individuals
- It receives nation attention
One of my favorite political commentators has said that if you want to know the motivation a person has for doing something, just follow the money. This little love letter to the potential sponsors seems to provide a really good money trail. You can say “It costs money to put on a quality program.’” But what, exactly, is the program when you have people whose behavior is indistinguishable from the unsaved, teaching, preaching, and entertaining?
I can almost picture T. Dexter in the role of jungle guide, directing the big game hunters to the herd of elephants. Instead actually ministering to the alleged saints, T. Dexter is gathering them all in one place, crying Havoc, and letting loose the dogs of commerce. (I always wanted to use that phrase in a sentence.)
I’ve told you time and again that T. Dexter, John Jenkins, and the rest do not see you as a ministry. They simply see you as a market and a stepping stone. Aren’t you tired of being stepped on?
with all that said, i thought the bible instructs us in Psalms 105:15 ” touch not mine anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm”?
How can you judge? Only God is the judge, you aren’t perfect, so how can you say this things against God’s Profits, don’t you remember Matthew 7:1-5…….
OK, please stop me before i vomit. Brother Jones, i’m new to your site, and dispite my slight sense of humor, I believe you have a wonderful site and please keep it up. For the life of me i can’t understand why those of the so called BOC (Body of Christ) would reject blatant truth, especially when we brag so much about having discernment. What sickens me even more is that they use those above scriptures as the only defense of their ring leaders. And anytime you expose the lie for the sake of their deliverance you are labeled as radical, fanatical, a pharisee, you have no love…etc. Again it is refreshing to see a website that is concerned about opening the eyes of those in bondage, that they come to live in the fullness of what our God and Savior Christ Jesus purposed to have.
Peace be on to you and God bless!
L-o-o-o-n-g time ago, when I first got saved, I was lying on my couch reading God’s Word. I was on an excursion to “excavation” but was too ignorant to take notes of my findings. I found something, but can’t remember where the Scripture is. So, someone out there, please help me as I paraphrase the Word I found:
“If you have given your money (gold, silver, support) to a worthless cause
and later find yourself in need, go back (return) to the place (the person) where you left your ‘gift.’”
The Lord knew that the “church” would wax worse and worse just like the nation of Israel did. And the “keepers of the flame” would rather switch than fight; e.g., earnestly contend for the faith. Jesus answered His disciples that deception is the primary sign of the APOSTATE CHURCH. That said, please keep your money, jewelry, checkbooks, credit cards, car titles, paid mortgages, and free-and-clear real estate of all types securely at home or in a safe deposit box in a bank. NEITHER ARE WE SUPPOSE TO “PLEDGE”! Promissory notes are for one prone to spiritual suicide. In the mouth of two or three witnesses, every Word is established:
1. A man lacking in sense pledges, and becomes surety in the presence of his neighbor.
Proverbs 17:18
2. When you make a vow to God, do not be late in paying it, for HE takes no delight in
fools. Pay what you vow! Ecclesiastes 5:4
3. It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.
Ecclesiastes 5:5
4. Do not let your speech cause you to sin and do not say in the presence of the
messenger of God that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry on account of
your voice and destroy the work of your hands? Ecclesiastes 5:6
5. JESUS IS SPEAKING: “Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall fulfill your vows to the Lord.’ But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is the City of the Great King. Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your statement be ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’: and anything beyond these is of evil.” MATTHEW 5:33-37
Remember, the last line above “…anything beyond these is of evil = the devourer (who comes as an angel of light), and his pulpit pimps, pimpettes, pimplings, liars, thieves, imposters, etc.
Let God be true and EVERY man a liar–especially those who berate you for NOT pledging!
Hey truthseeker,
That’s the second time you used that scripture (Psalms 105:15) in reference to the “Pimps”. Do you know the content of that passage? Read the whole chapter and notice that scriptures intent for the patriarchs and the nation of Israel who were God’s anointed ones and not for these hucksters who cut up scripture to their own understanding. Again do you really believe that these hucksters are God’s anointing? If so you must be blind as Stevie Wonder or don’t listen to them with discernment.
Also your use of Matthew 7:1-5, there’s a big difference between judging and exposing. Doesn’t the bible warn us of heresies, false teaching and manipulation? Do you take for granted scriptures like 2 Peter 2:1-3? Why do you believe a guy like Creflo is God’s anointing? And don’t tell me because he has prospered financially over the years.
(MN: I believe Truthteller was just quoting someone from an earlier posting. )
Okay. My apology to truthseeker
AMEN
well Beryl the pearl, these liars fail to realize key scriptures like 1Timothy 6:5-10. They don’t teach that “godliness with content is great gain”. They rather preach that Great gain is a measure of godliness. At this one church that i used to attend here in baltimore, the assistant pastor had the audacity to explain to me that the reason why Majic Johnson is so blessed is because his family tithes and a sew into the church. Note (the assistant pastor’s wife is a second cousin of Magic’s). Nevertheless, he gave me the impression that ok as long as i plant “seed” in God’s house then he will bless my life dispite my unforgiven sins. Bare in mind, Magic never declared to be a follower of Jesus.
Furthermore, this is the same place that later welcomed Rod Gibson ( here is his website http://www.lifechurchriverside.org ) another WOF and bishop Cornelius Showell of Baltimore, who one night had about three 10 foot tables stretched across the pulpit to collect a “peace offering” from the church i was attending. All the while a person standing next to him with a calculator counting every thing that came in the bucket. And after the final calculation he still insisted that they needed $5000.00 more before they can leave.
Interesting isn’t it?
Good catch Melvin
I especially liked this phrase > “the highly regarded T.D. Jakes brand.”
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you…….2Peter 2:3
Will they teach sound financial advice or just take up and offering?
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/cobb/stories/2007/09/26/Jakes_0927_web.html
Does anyone watch Jakes’ tv show, and those of others? They seem more like informercials (for books, tapes, etc.). They use half the time hawking, and then drop in an edited snippet of a sermon (and there’s are ads at the bottom of the screen during the message.
I’d like to know how billy graham did or did not “market” his revivals. If you know, please post something.
