Did you ever watch a train wreck in slow motion? It’s awful to watch and you know exactly how it’s going to end. But somehow, you just can’t take your eyes off of it. It’s looking more and more like Tony Evans is being seduced by Darth Long and the Dark Side. And while it’s fascinating to watch, it’s also really depressing to watch. Several weeks ago, I pointed out that Evans has been invited to speak at Club Newbirth. Take a look here to see the invite. This wondrous event is supposed to happen in September.
It could be that Fast Eddie put Evans’ name on the speakers list without Evans’ knowledge. Remember, someone pointed out earlier that the fact that a person was invited to a Goat Rope doesn’t mean that person has any intention of attending the subject Goat Rope. And that’s true. I’ve invited President Bush, Prince Charles, Andrew Young and a host of other bigwigs to speak at the various pimpocidal conferences Pulpit-Pimps.org has held in the past. I even announced that they were going to be speakers. Unfortunately they never showed. Fortunately, the events were free to the public and all I had to do was apologize for their lack of consideration in not showing up. Of course, with their names on the program, I got thousands more people attending than I would have otherwise.
Okay, I’ve never held a conference. But you get the idea.
If you take a look here, you will see that some of this is not a case of Fast Eddie inviting someone who had no intention of attending. At Evan’s site, you will see that he has invited Fast Eddie to address the pastors and church managers during the Church Development Conference. But maybe, you might say, he wants to Get Fast Eddie there so he can confront him on a thing or two , like the sperm thing, or Long’s association with Creflo Dollar.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem very likely in light of some of the other activities going on. Take a look at this. It’s an ad Fast Eddie has been sending out to the faithful, advertising the approaching publication of his new book “It’s Your Time.”
The endorsers include Myles Monroe, Andrew Young, Robert (I Wish I Was Norman Vincent Peale) Schuller and down at the bottom where you might not notice it (insert a dramatic drum roll here please), Tony Evans.
Yep. He says Fast Eddie speaks with truth and great power. You can see the man going from orthodox teachings to endorsing those who preach doctrines very much apart from orthodoxy. It won’t be too long before he embraces them himself. Maybe.
Here’s what you should do: Pray for young Jedi Apprentice Evans. Pray for him and write to him. Call him out on what he appears to be doing. Make him explain to you exactly what he is doing and why. Here’s the address:

For those of you who may want to continue to make excuses for him, give the organization a call and ask the hard questions. Those questions are:
· Why are you speaking at an Eddie Long sponsored conference?
· Why have you invited Eddie Long to speak at a conference you are hosting?
· Why are you endorsing a book by Eddie Long when the book appears to go counter to God’s expectations and promises in the believer’s life?
If he is in fact beginning the pimp game with you, you will either get a generic response thanking you for your support, or some implausible appeal to scripture. He (or his staff) may even tell you it is inappropriate to judge others. If they tell you this, you will know for certain that you have been pimped.

WOF did not spring out of nothingness. It arose out of the error of Pentecostalism. It is the natural (or unnatural) consequence of that system of teaching. It is spread by the ecumenical spirit that values unity over truth. It flourishes in the current Christian enviornment that diminishes the value of Christ (who has been superceded by the Holy Ghost) scripture (replaced by experience), evangelism and discipleship (both obsoleted by the doctrine of the second work of grace). It is this root doctrine of Pentecostalism which spawned nearly all of the persons and movements that are the subject of this web page.
Regarding the issue of Dr. Evans, a good biblical example of what seems to be happening here is found in the life of Jehoshaphat:
1. Jehoshapat was one of the best, i.e. most doctrinal kings of Judah, as was his father Asa
2. He chose an alliance with the evil King Ahab of Israel for what appears to have been political (pan Israelism) and military (fear of Syria) reasons.
3. He ignores the dual blasphemies of the religion of Jereboam and the religion of Baal being practiced under Ahab.
4. He becomes progressively more intimate with Ahab, actually naming his children after Ahab’s children and marring his son to the daughter of Jezebel, Ahabs Baal worshiping wife.
5. Jehoshaphat ignores 3 successive warnings by prophets sent by God to discourage him from his alliance with Ahab
6. His sons embrace the Baal worship of Ahab and Jezebel, casting all of Judah into false worship
7. God allows the destruction of all the male descendants of Jehoshaphat (save one) within only five years of the great kings’ death.
8. Throughout all of his reign, Jehoshaphat (like Evans so far) never practiced or taught Ahab’s doctrine -he was only a carrier of the retrovirus of error that destroyed his posterity and undermined his entire people. 1kings 22, 2kings 9-11 2Ch 17-22
There is a direct correlation between the toleration by much of (not all) the black church of false doctrine and the subsequent decline and instability of black America as a whole in the last 35 years. Word of faith is not merely a cause, it is also a result.
I said this in an earlier post that I happen to like (I don’t mind calling him Dr since he really did earn it) Dr. Tony Evans a lot and this is dissapointing.
You’re quite right. He did earn the title. And it is sad to see - - IF in fact that is what is happening.

i hate to burst your bubble but this will not be the first time that tony evans has spoken at new birth.
Yeah, I Know. But I want to give a bruvva the benefit of the doubt all the same.
This is a definitely a disappointment. But no suprise really.
1) At the 1999 church conference sponsored by the TUA/Evans, the topic was the Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Error and one of the keynote speakers was Ken Ulmer !
2) His transdispensational philosophy in the book
“Totally Saved”, sounded like unversialism.
3) Sermons/teachings stop dealing with the exposition of scripture and just straight into illustrations. At the 2003 Moody’s Pastor Conference he gave nearly a 60 minute sermon (talk?) with nothing but illustrations! Which says a lot about the sponsors and audience.
4) It is a know fact that Oakcliffe’s membership has dwindled since 2000 and the springing up of the so-called Potter’s House.
5) He publicly referred to the fact that his books have sold, he’s preached in various places, and that he pastors a good size - church all “evangelical success”. I don’t know the motive behind such statements but I was uncomfortable hearing it.
I’m actually chiming in with the hope that there’s an update. Maybe BlackCalvinist (That name is off the hook by way!) since you might have connection perhaps you can correspond with your pastor and see if there’s some help.
Oh, I did write the TUA back in 1999 detailing what Ulmer was doing at that time (for those don’t know he had left the Full Gospel Movement, partnered with Azuza revivalism, and was ordained by some Roman Catholics as bishop over the Los Angeles Macedonia Bible Church International) and never got a response.
A Message to Everyone:
I actually know Dr. Tony Evans personally and I am great friends with his Brother-in-Law and family. What everyone is seeing now, I have seen coming for a number of years!
Tony has a great heart, is sincere about his walk with Christ, and is a tremendous, gifted teacher of The Word. However, what you guys are seeing is to some degree an effort to grow his church bigger than what it is.
Ironically, most White Evangelical Churches have believed that God’s favor will be evident by how large a church is. Tony, being a DTS graduate bought into that philosophy for much of his early years of ministry.
When T.D. Jakes came to town, Tony was intimidated…whether he admits it or not. I believe that he has come to the conclusion that in order to stay Relevant and in great demand as a preacher, he would have to forego some of his traditional “evangelical theology” and embrace the teachings of the WOF as well as some of the prominent propponents of that sector in the church.
Sadly, I do feel that my friend, Dr. Tony Evans has fallen prey to the pressure of “Bigness” in the church. Tony will not invite anyone to speak either at his church or conference if they do not have a “Big Name” or a “Big Church.”
As it relates to Eddie Long, I know specifically why he embraces Mr. Long. When Tony first started having his conferences and did not have a big ministry or name, Eddie was one of the faithfuls who attended the conference every year.
Now that “Bishop Long” has emerged as a prominent player, Tony wants to stay close to him and vice-versa. In closing, I want to say that I struggle with Black people and especially Black Ministers (yes, I’m Black Too!) because we are NOT very discerning nor do we care to hold people accountable for anything!
We just accept anything people dish out to us. If I were not “genuine in my love for my Savior and His People, I could easily duped my people to believing heresy and false teachings that are destructive to the minds, souls, and hearts of Black people!
I’m sick and tired of seeing the ignorance of our preachers who always preach what I call “Coming out of the Valley” type sermons. Where is the Theology and Doctrine?
The late Dr. Manuel Scott, Sr. said that “The black Church needs Preachers who have the ability to communicate deep theological truths to its people.”
How right he was! I want to say to Melvin, I’d love to get with you and some other preachers about perhaps putting together a conference of sorts that focus on teaching Black Churches & Ministers how to Defend the Historical Christian Faith. My Master degree is in Christian Apologetics. I am prepared to tackle and challenge the false prophets who parade around as God-ordained preachers.

I think a conference of that magnitude would be great. I would support totally. I am so tired of black people being undereducated in scripture, it’s sickening.

You need to check yourself over this my brother……..I see no evidence in Scripture that any issue within the Body was ever addressed according to melatonin context, cultural context, or any other context than that the Body is one.
Truth is the issue………….and it pierces the heart however the flesh or culture differs within the Body.

It is unfortunate that satan takes the opportunity to pervert the witness of men who are effective communicators of God’s Word. Pride is of course the weapon used. I have listened to Dr. Evans for years and was enthralled by the fact that he seemed to preach an uncomprising Gospel based totally on the Word of God. I know first hand that he is no longer going this directions but has sold out to the practices used in most of the megachurch movements. Not only does he share the stage with men of this movement but he also has invited them to his conferences and promoted their material to those pastors that are in attendance. The literature of comtemplatives, and emergent writers appear as part of what is used as resources to read. I am especially concerned with his affliation with a Skull and Bonesman. How can light walk with darkness? It appears that he has sold out for the purpose of popularity and inclusion into the “apostate church” promoting various doctrines that are dangerous leavens to God’s Word. He is very clever to mask his affiliation with some of these “wolves” and seems to be behind the scenes supporting them. I have confronted him on these issues, but he never gave a clear response instead referred me to someone else. I brought the issue to his attention knowing that he would take a stand against what was clearly unbiblical, much to my surprise and disappointment he did not take a Biblical stand. I pray for Dr. Evans because at one time he was truly a teacher of the pure milk of the Word. I feel that he has compromised, and now remains only a form of Godliness.

I have to do some research but I’ve been listening to Tony Evans and hearing a weird saying here or there, It was almost like he started teaching a Doctrine that was weird. I will not elaborate until I’ve researched enough and listened to the sermon again.

The rebutal to the critics of Dr. Tony Evans. He is correct in teaching Once saved always saved due to The Bible saying christians have eternal life starting at time of salvation ( not part-time life). It is not a sin for Tony to preach in the same pulpit as do some strange christian teachers because he is being light for darkness. Jesus preached anywhere therefore we saints can preach anywhere.
Hi Keith! Your analogy is flawed. Dr Evans is not simply preaching WHERE strange Christian teachers preach, He is SHARING THE PULPIT AND PLATFORM with them.
His presence among them lends credibility to the teachers of false doctrine, which makes him a partaker of their evil deeds.
2Jo 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house (or Bible conference, and certainly not your PULPIT), neither bid him God speed:(like say, by promoting them by your presence, lending them your credibility)

You use Jesus as an example to show us it’s OK to hang with the sinners. But tell me………..where did Jesus share the platform and pulpit with sinners??
Tony isn’t simply around them being light in darkness…….he’s sharing a pulpit with them and by extension putting his mark of approval upon them.
Jesus NEVER did anything of the sort. There’s a BIG difference.
I have read this blog several times. I need the help of Melvin Jones and other faithful bloggers. Once we submit to our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him the King of our lives, are we then entitled to ask Him to assist us in areas of our life that need adjustments? I have been reading Deut 8:1-14 and John 15:7 and I am curious if my DADDY the almighty will bless me beyond measure because of my obedience, because of my abiding by His commandments. Bloggers will I be a sheeple or materialistic like the pimps in the pulpit?
