I used to think the Word of Faith (WoF) doctrine was one hundred percent Bible-based. But now I know it is not. I grew up in WoF churches for most of my life, and looking back, I see I only saw God as a God of miracles, healings and money. Funny enough, that was not all He was.
My mom took me from church to church, looking for some “special anointing” so her problems could be solved. She believed God was omnipresent. Didn’t she contradict herself by trying to meet God at a certain place, at a certain time?
For almost 13 years, that was all God was about , solving problems. The fact that Jesus died was not only to get into heaven, but it was also the path to material wealth and success. Persecution was thought of to be from the devil, not something Jesus actually mentioned in the Beatitudes.
Theology was nothing, or just for the “intellectuals.” Why would everyday Christians care about reading Charles Spurgeon or John Calvin? The Wof doctrines can be simplified into one statement: Life should be as good on earth as it is in heaven. You don’t need theology for that!
During my senior year of High school, I began to find the holes in this doctrine. The “confess and believe” doctrine was only supported by a few verses. But if God is sovrereign, there is no way my words could change anything
In WoF, more emphasis was on the emotional experience than actually conversing with God. Rather than going off into speaking in tongues, I’d actually talk to God, focusing on Him. When I fell sick, I stopped binding demons, but instead prayed for healing, if it was God’s will.
When I finally graduated and moved back to the United States, I joined a Bible-believing church whose doctrine was based on more than a few scattered verses in the Bible. Independently and corporately, I learned exegesis, hermeneutics as well as interpretation. I was able to conclude that the Word of Faith doctrine was not totally biblically based, but rather a doctrine where men read the American Dream into the Christian life.
Thats my girl Neeci!
Wassup Emeagwali.
I put neeci’s testimony on http://www.holycultureradio.com quote unquote build board and it got deleted by the mod’s with no explanation. Go figure??????
That holy culture radio, I went to the website. What was that all about? Are they Christians? I couldn’t distinguish the difference between them and the world.
Hey Tyrone….the HCR Forum has a lock-down on theology. I agree with the mods when they say that’s not the reason the forum is for, so that’s my .02.
Rina and seal, thanks for the comments! And kudos to Melvin!
Its funny you should say that. Yes they are christians, and the only similarity they have with the world is the way they dress. Well, the men anyhow.
Man looks on the outside, God looks at the heart. If you were to talk to any of the members there you would have gotten your answer instead of judging the outside.
Just my $.02, Im not calling you out.
Melvin,
When considering absolute apostasy to the word of God, check out Brian McLaren (anewkindofchristian.com), if you have not already. Pastor John Coleman played an interview on his Saturday web cast, worth listening to. Every Christian should beware of him and his ilk.
That’s my lil sis right there speaking the Truth of Christ through her testimony and she’s only 15 years old folks. God has raised her up well.
Ty you see what they did to that post I had on Paula White’s Heretical First Fruit Offering she collects. She’s a wanna be Levite…
Grace and Peace

hey neeci i loved reading your testimony, that is what im talking about.
just finished watching creflo dollar on tv he was talking on boldness in christ or something close to that.
he did the classic WOF trick and mixed biblical truth with his own truths it was so painful to watch eg God is love (true) followed by him saying God CAN’T hate.
His idea of boldness deleted and even made fun at the whole concept of the need to humble oneselves when we draw close to God and placed far to much emphasis on the believers ‘rights’.
He even went as far as to say that when your not recieving a certain healing/blessing the problem is with you not God that you should examine yoursleve to see what your doing wrong.
I’ve only recently been saved and dont claim to be an expert on Bible, heck i haven’t even read the bible all the way through yet. But i know alot of what he was saying just wasn’t right. Maybe its the fact that i’d just got back from bible study at a church where the pastor actually teaches the word in context.
This was the first and hopefully last time that i will ever have the misfortune to catch another one of his sermons.
You go girl speak that thing! (no pun intended..lol)
This is good. Notice that Neeci placed a premium on theology—sound theology. This is what we, as the people of God, need. We need to be sound theological thinkers, which is biblical theology. To Neeci, stay strong in the Lord and the power of his might. Continue reading Spurgeon and Calvin!
