i don’t dispute any of the scripture that you quoted, but in the context of Pulpit pimps, I want to make a point. Most pimps on TBN, and in other places where you find bad doctirne, speak of something called “the annointing.” (see Benny Hinn) “The annointing”, is described as a tangible physical force; pimps claim that this is the manifest Presence of God. Some pimps/pmpettes claim to have a stronger dose (”double portion”) of this force, therefore have a greater ability to throw peopel down on the floor, etc. So Marylin hickey is sending this oil to people, not in any way for the purposes that you so expertly defined, but because she is claiming that there is something better(annointing) about an object that has been in contact with her, (hankie, oil, penny) than any of us random joes out there preaching at the neighborhood corner church would ever have. This is the way that these folks are able to supercede the authority of the local church, because they are more “annointed.”

Mel, we both agree people shouldn’t ever seek the miracle. Nor is the oil anything… It’s not the creature that we should seek, or the occurence, it’s the Creator we should seek. Seeking His fand and not just His hand.

The guy sitting by the pool of bethesda was looking for someone to put him down in the water and didn’t even recognize the Healer Himself was standing right in front of him asking if he wanted to be made whole… It happens.

I don’t think any one disagrees with much of anything you are saying, at least not very strongly. But the issue in this case is this:

1. Does the Bible speak of me or anyone else blessing oil so it will have an affect? In James, the oil is secondary, the elders pray. In the OT the widow was able to pour oil out of a single jug, filling many more jugs. But was there anything special about the oil itself?

2. I think you did a good job of showing that sometimes a miracle is sought. However, is that the norm either in the Old Testament or the New? I would suggest it was not a normal occurence, any more than Jesus walking the Earth was a normal occurence.

3. the complaint is that people say things that are sometimes true, mixed in with things that are not true, and then “rape” as you say, those who haven’t a clue. And that, by the way, is a major part of the definition of a pimp or pimpette.

Please don’t think that I condone the raping of God’s people. I am saying however unique a miracle may be, that they are (1 Cor. 12) for the body of Jesus Christ (i.e. the church). Let’s not allow the wolves to cause us to despise the goodness of God toward His people unto His signs and wonders. They are wrong, but God’s methods remain pure (no matter how we may try to pervert them).

God is no respecter of persons. Paul, just like us, was a vessel. He worked miracles not because he was Paul, but because of Christ in him (and me, and Melvin, and you too.)

That’s a very simple task:
1. Anointing oil has it’s place in the life of the believer: Mk. 6:13 and James 5:13-15. Hopefully this scripture is clear enough to solidify that beyond men’s personal feelings, the Holy Spirit inspired scripture ordains anointing with oil for the purpose of (at the least) healing. So, it doesn’t say it “just once.” The texts are in context and simple.

2. Oil as Symbolism: Symbol - Something that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention, especially a material object used to represent something invisible.
Oil by itself is just a natural substance. So, it’s obvious that the various references to anointing with oil (Ex. 25:6, 29:7; Lev. 8:12; 1 Sam. 10:1, 16:13, Mk. 6:13; Jam. 5:14 ) are representations of God’s power (which is spiritual first) manifesting through natural means.

3.”Most times, miracles happened without the person’s consent” isn’t accurate. Most times the people sought the Lord exceedingly for deliverance: I’m not sure why I have to back this up seeing as it’s apparent throughout the gospels, but here it goes.

- Mat. 4:23-25 - People came to Jesus for healings, and deliverance.
- Mat. 8:2-8, 16-17 - The centurian sought Jesus for healing.
- Mat. 9:1 - Breaking open the roof to get a miracle
- Lepers sought deliverance: Mk. 1:40, Luke 5:12, 22:51,
- Mat. 15:21: Samaritan woman sought him for healing.
- Heb. 11:6 - Faith pleases God and accesses His promises. Jesus told the people “Thy faith hath made thee whole…”

Based on Hebrews definition of faith, it is consensual. Consent: To agree. Why would someone say that the people didn’t agree with receiving a miraculous change to their situation?

Also David W., none of the examples you used were sent out to all the people to for money. Paul never sent out his hankerchief to millions of poor souls and ask for an offering. These miracles were very unique, in fact scripture says that they were unusual(Acts 19:11). It’s funny that others tried to do the things that Paul did and the demons called them out(Acts 19:15). You’re right, God can use anything, even the mouth of an ass, or a whale, it’s His perogative(as opposed to Bobby’s). However, God doesn’t use these miracles to exploit the poor widow’s or the fatherless, or anyone in a desolate position for their money.

So yes, let God be true, and let us be liars.

At this point you are obligated to back your statements up from scripture. You kind of did it with the references to Peter’s shadow, Paul’s hankies, etc. But your first set of statements and the last are without support. Please provide that support.

Anointing oil has its place in the life of the believer. It’s symbolic to God and He seems pleased to use it as a tool to demonstrate what’s going on in the spirit. God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.

That’s not to justify, nor reject Marilyn Hickey, but we cannot deny that the Lord used odd methods of healing (Jesus spittin’ on people, Paul’s handkerchief, Peter’s shadow, Elisha’s dead bones, the dirty Jordan river [Naaman]) God can use anything, but we must be able to discern the difference.

And the comment about “Most times, miracles happened without the person’s consent” isn’t accurate. Most times the people sought the Lord exceedingly for deliverance, recognizing that He is a rewarder of them that DILIGENTLY seek Him… The just will live by faith.

Let God be true and every man a liar.

Ok…I am really tired of this nonsense. If WOF is so biblically based, why isn’t their doctrine parallel to that of the church in the NT? Only once so far was “anointing oil” mentioned, and that was by James, in his book. Now I see people (including my own mom) buying “blessed oil” using it as a point of contact…..one word….WITCHCRAFT. It’s so funny how their Christianity is starting to blend with false religions…

Lord, help these people. They add so much to simple biblical doctrine…

BTW, all this praying-for-miracles thing. I can’t remember anywhere in the Bible where someone prayed for a miracle, as in, “Lord, give me a miracle!” Most times, miracles happened without the person’s consent…I’ll save that for later.
