Now I’m not saying New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (aka Club Newbirth) is just like the Jehovah’s Witnesses, but it is interesting that like the JWs, these guys seem to have gotten rid of almost all of the symbols of Christianity. The JWs have Jesus crucified on a stake instead of a cross. Thus no cross. They discount the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force kind of like electricity. They changed the name of their places of worship from church building to Kingdom Hall.

The more I look at Club Newbirth, the more questions I have. But right now, I will ask whoever may wander by this site if they can tell me what, exactly, this symbol means. It’s all over New Birth. It’s plastered all over the organization’s site. The good pastor wears a huge diamond ring featuring the symbol.

What is it? What is it a symbol of? Does it mean anything or is it just a bit of Bling Bling to keep people from confusing Club Newbirth with a real church?

Melvin,

I am by no means a fan of Club New Birth or Eddie Long, but it seems like you might be reaching w/ this one… To me, the symbol looks like an artist interpertion of a Cross with 2 support beams on the sides.

I could be wrong, but it seems like they put the other 2 bars on the right and left in order for it to work in their logo.

Now as to why they use that as their symbol, my guess is the marketing firm they hired to do their PR, told them it was cool and hip.

just my .02

PL

(Melvin’s Note: That is certainly a possiblity. Or the symbolism may be quite positive and not at all sinister. But the quetion remains: What is the meaning of the symbol? Inquiring minds want to know. Besides, the engineer in me says a support beam would flare out from the base, not toward it. )

It could possibly be a cleverly concealed pentagram. I don’t know, but I think I’ll ask one of my coworkers who is a member of the club, “New Birth.” I’m sure the answer will be very interesting.

Have a blessed day,

I bet no one at Long’s Church has a clue what that is. He did make statement from a sermon I heard him preach that tells his people God don’t want his people to Study the Word, but do what it says.

Oxy-Moron anyone?

John Shelby Spong’s list of academic achievement leaves Eddie Long looking like Forrest Gump’s dumber brother.

However………….Spong is a heretic. Long is a pimp. Why?? Education (which is admirable) without the Spirit (which is a NECESSITY) is an almost certain route to abomination.

I certainly don’t agree with much of pimping going on in the church today. I also don’t agree with posting incorrect information or posting containing have truths of information or distorted information. My posting aren’t in defense of what these people are doing, but let what you say be correct instead of posting that imply so what if some information is incorrect they are still pimps. I submit to you when you post things that contain half truths and aren’t correct we are lying and we all know what the bible says about liars.

(MN: The obvious question here is: What was the half truth posted? )

Hi Melvin,

I was told by a member that the emblem is the shield of faith. And so, In order to verify that information, I called the church and spoke to the receptionist who confirmed that it is in fact, the shield of faith.

These people are so caught up into foolishness that if a paper clip had been used, they would spiritualize it as well.

Since the apostle Paul, never provided us with a picture and design of the “shield of faith,” who in the world gives New Birth Cathedral and Bishop Wrong the right to imagine one? He’s gone, way gone.

I’m sorry, I was actually not going to comment on this site, because I figured it would be causing trouble. And I really don’t want to interfere with you guys preacher bashing, you seem to be having a really good time with it. I thought alot of it was cleverly funny at best. Nothing edifying at all. But when I came across the part about the shield. I had no idea that we were not allowed to use our creativity when it came the armour of God. My kids at church have drawn the entire armour of God, it certainly didn’t look like Bishops, but I guess my kids are already gone because Paul didn’t draw somewhere between verse 10 and 18. You guys crack me up.

Here is where most of the so-called being creative leads to. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,262602,00.html

They should be more concerned with creatively interpreting the bible correctly.

And by the way I am edified every time I come here, nothing edifies me more than to see the saints getting together, and correctly interpreting God’s word, and warning the masses about those who don’t.

It is the sheild of faith. And I will be talking about that on my site soon. I already posted things on my yahoo group about Melvin “Dry Bones” Jones’ nonsense. The cross is being currently used as a Christian symbol. It was not a Christian symbol in the 1st Century. No one in the Bible wore a cross. I am not against crosses, but I would not wear one myself because it’s the instrument that killed our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. If he got killed in today’s time with a machine gun would you wear that too? That’s my position. But if you want to wear it cool. The cross is Roman and Babylonian in origin. I have this on my site:

http://www.albatrus.org/english/religions/pagan/origin_of_cross.htm

And this guy Melvin “Dry Bones” Jones wants to call everyone who does not use the cross symbol a JW? That’s really nuts. You are really reaching with these claims.

Do you naturally have “tough skin” when it comes to these issues of foolish argument or was it
something learned over time?

Just curious as to whether or not it’s a individual calling (ex. having the gifting to do prision ministry, working with troubled youth, etc) or the investing in need to toughen up my skin a bit…Thoughts?

2007-03-31 11:53:01

Oh this whole claiming not to want a cross because Jesus died on one talk is something else. It seems to stem from when rapper KRS-One talked about us wearing “guns around our necks” if Jesus had been shot. What these folks don’t recognize is that Jesus took victory over the cross. Which is why most Protestant Christians use a symbol of an empty cross, versus Catholics having a symbol of Jesus on a cross, to have you sit there and remember pain rather than victory. The empty cross shows that Jesus IS NOT DEAD and has power over death.

But some folks spend more time on a rhyme than understanding symbols of the faith.

They probably think the “12 Days of Christmas” song is about materialism and know nothing of the history about it.

Bottom line, a lack of education is a terrible thing. This stuff comes from folks who simply are not well educated and that’s a fact.

Again, would you hit me back on this one when you can? I’d appreciate it…. Blessings….

G2, Good Morning! Happy to oblige, and indeed, your first reference is correct—conforming to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ. See also Romans 8:29, Philippians 3:10-11, and 1Timothy 6:3-5. Notice in 1Timothy 3:4-5 describes precisely those haters-of-the-truth, the Gospel, who have recently “picked up their marbles and run home.”

By the way, when I said I am one of Melvin’s older sisters in the Lord, I meant by years only—not in the ability to exegete Scripture as he does, nor has my patience and graciousness reached the level of his. But there’s still hope for me as my Creator and Father will complete what He began in me (smiles). His love, and mine.

(MN: Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve made it to the big time!!! We now have a Jehovah’s Witness commenting to promote JW doctrine. Give it a read and see what you think. In fact, see if you can spot the major bad doctrines the JW’s preach. What do they say about the Holy Spirit? What do they say about Jesus’ crucifixion? What do they say about God in general? Pay close attention to the habit of making an unsupported statement and then building a case on that statement. Also watch for jumps in logic. Use this posting (which is apparently a copy and paste from their website), and see if you can spot the indicators of the counterfeit nature of the religion. Remember, this was posted by a JW or at least by someone sympathetic to the JWs. Have fun. )

I want to address once again someone doesn’t know what the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe.

First off, the name Jehovah is to distinguish from these other so called gods. Why don’t you all use God’s real name? It is Jehovah. Jesus Christ identified Jehovah as the only true God. (MN: Anybody care to show me where He did this?

God Has a Name!
What is God’s name? Humans all have personal names. Why, many people even name their pets! Would it not be reasonable for God to have a name? Having and using personal names is unquestionably a vital part of human relationships and interactions. Should it be different when it comes to our relationship with God? Ironically, millions who profess faith in the God of the Bible do not use his personal name. Yet, God’s name has been known for centuries. As you read this series of articles, learn of times when God’s name was widely used. More important, learn what the Bible says about getting to know God by name.

BY THE 17th century, several European countries were minting coins featuring the name of God. A German coin minted in the year 1634 prominently featured the name Jehovah. Such coins became popularly known as the Jehovah talers, or Jehovah coins, and were circulated for decades.

Jehovah is a rendering of God’s name that has been recognized for centuries. In Hebrew, a language that is read from right to left, the name appears as four consonants, . These four Hebrew characters–transliterated YHWH–are known as the Tetragrammaton. God’s name in this form was also inscribed on European coins for decades.

God’s name can also be found on buildings, monuments, and works of art as well as in many church hymns. According to the German Brockhaus encyclopedia, at one time it was customary for Protestant princes to wear an insignia composed of a stylized sun and the Tetragrammaton. The symbol, also used on flags and coins, was known as the Jehovah-Sun insignia. Clearly, the deeply religious Europeans of the 17th and 18th centuries knew that Almighty God had a name. More significantly, they were not afraid to use it.

The name of God was no mystery in Colonial America either. Consider, for example, the American Revolutionary soldier Ethan Allen. According to his memoirs, in 1775 he demanded that his enemies surrender “in the name of the Great Jehovah.” Later, during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, several advisers made frequent mention of Jehovah in their letters to Lincoln. Other American historical documents containing the name of God are available for public review in many libraries. These are but a few examples of how the name of God has for centuries been prominently displayed.

What about today? Has the name of God been forgotten? Hardly. Various Bible translations feature the personal name of God in many verses. A quick visit to a library or a few minutes of research in your own dictionaries will likely reveal that the name Jehovah is widely accepted as the vernacular equivalent of the Tetragrammaton. For example, the Encyclopedia International pointedly defines the name Jehovah as the “modern form of the Hebrew sacred name of God.” A recent edition of The New Encyclopædia Britannica explains that Jehovah is the “Judeo-Christian name for God.”

‘But,’ you may wonder, ‘is God’s name a matter of concern to people today?’ The name of God, in one form or another, is still featured in many public areas. For instance, the name Jehovah is inscribed on the cornerstone of a building in New York City. In the same city, the name has also been found in Hebrew in a colorful mosaic decorating a busy subway station. It is safe to say, however, that of the thousands of people who have walked by these locations, few have attached any significance to the inscriptions.

Is the name of God important to people in your part of the world? Or do most refer to the Creator as “God,” as if this title were his actual name? Your personal observation might be that many people do not give any thought to whether God even has a name. What about you? Do you feel comfortable addressing God by his personal name, Jehovah?

Second, the paragraph below represents the belief of the Jehovah’s Witnesses concerning Christ dying on a cross:

Cross: Jesus did not die on a cross. He died on a pole, or a stake. The Greek word translated “cross” in many Bibles meant just one piece of timber. The symbol of the cross comes from ancient false religions. The cross was not used or worshiped by the early Christians. Therefore, do you think it would be right to use a cross in worship?–Deuteronomy 7:26; 1 Corinthians 10:14.

Third, this is their position concerning the Holy Spirit:

While the Bible always refers to God as having a specific dwelling place, it often speaks of his holy spirit in ubiquitous terms. “Where can I go from your spirit, and where can I run away from your face?” asked the psalmist David. (Psalm 139:7) Some have been confused by such references and may conclude that God is omnipresent. Yet, when considering the context of this and other texts, it becomes clear that Jehovah’s holy spirit–or power in action–can be extended from his fixed location to any place in the material universe.

Like a father’s hand extending down to console and support his children, Jehovah’s hand–or holy spirit–can extend to any part of the spiritual realm or the physical universe to accomplish Jehovah’s purpose. Hence, the psalmist could say: “Were I to take the wings of the dawn, that I might reside there in the most remote sea, there, also, your own hand would lead me and your right hand would lay hold of me.”–Psalm 139:9, 10.

An Active Force

THE Bible’s use of “holy spirit” indicates that it is a controlled force that Jehovah God uses to accomplish a variety of his purposes. To a certain extent, it can be likened to electricity, a force that can be adapted to perform a great variety of operations.

At Genesis 1:2 the Bible states that “God’s active force [”spirit” (Hebrew, ru’ach)] was moving to and fro over the surface of the waters.” Here, God’s spirit was his active force working to shape the earth.

God uses his spirit to enlighten those who serve him. David prayed: “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your spirit [ru’ach] is good; may it lead me in the land of uprightness.” (Psalm 143:10) When 70 capable men were appointed to help Moses, God said to him: “I shall have to take away some of the spirit [ru’ach] that is upon you and place it upon them.”–Numbers 11:17.

Bible prophecy was recorded when men of God were “borne along by holy spirit [Greek, from pneu’ma].” (2 Peter 1:20, 21) In this way the Bible was “inspired of God,” the Greek word for which is The·o’pneu·stos, meaning “God-breathed.” (2 Timothy 3:16) And holy spirit guided certain people to see visions or to have prophetic dreams.–2 Samuel 23:2; Joel 2:28, 29; Luke 1:67; Acts 1:16; 2:32, 33.

The holy spirit impelled Jesus to go into the wilderness after his baptism. (Mark 1:12) The spirit was like a fire within God’s servants, causing them to be energized by that force. And it enabled them to speak out boldly and courageously.–Micah 3:8; Acts 7:55-60; 18:25; Romans 12:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:19.

By his spirit, God carries out his judgments on men and nations. (Isaiah 30:27, 28; 59:18, 19) And God’s spirit can reach everywhere, acting for people or against them.–Psalm 139:7-12.

Last, the name of the congregation building has never had utilized the word church. The congreagation building has always been Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It does two things. It distinguishes them from the rest (Christendom) and it tells those what God is being worshipped. Just because a building has church on it does not make it holy endowed. There are plenty of places with the name church on them but they full of false religious doctrines.

The bottomline is this, please stop misstating the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses before you go and research yourself, do not listen to no one else. Hey, even go to a congregational meeting, and no they want require you to make a donation.

(MN: Again ladies and gentlemen, take a look at this and see why the pimps will be in business until Jesus returns. But we must still warn those who are in the churches and those who might get drawn into them. )

Greetings all.

This is a very interesting website. For all here who claim to be christians, a website that is dedicated to throwing fiery darts at men/women who are servants of GOD, pastors are humans. (MN: But they’re not servants of God, pastors. They’re pimps. ) Put their clothes on just like you and I do. Is this website supposed to be christlike? Is this how you make disciples? Talking about pastors YOU think are what “Bad people or something?” There will always be preachers who will have a large congregation. Jesus often spoke to thousands. I am one of the members of the “Club New Birth” as you call it. I have been blessed with material things, but I have been mostly been blessed with knowledge, wisdom, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I wonder why people renounce pastors and people who are financially wealthy. (MN: Usually it’s because they got it dishonestly, like the 3.1 million dollars worth of cash, land, and cars Fast Eddie got while running a charity. ) If you are a child of GOD, does it really make sense that GOD has children who experience poverty and lack? If GOD takes care of his children, then that means health wise, financially, in all areas of life where the human has basic requirements to live in whatever society they exist in. A

nd if these things are exceedingly abundant, then some christians have a problem with this? Ask yourself, did Adam and Eve have riches and wealth? YES they did. The garden provided everything they needed to prosper. Listen up christians, PROSPERITY does not only mean a lot of money. Abundance is what we are privy to … financial abundance, abundance of health, abundance of love. These things are all needed.

2007-05-13 17:57:50

When I was at Club New Birth, I’d do like Russell and claim that Fast Eddie was “only human” and that at least I could see his issue, while others have hidden problems. But I had to leave, because you can’t square such generalities with scripture, such as 1 Timothy 6, where Paul says to FLEE and despite how many Old Testament examples can be pulled, you can’t square Eddie Long with Jesus and the apostles, not at all.

Because if Russell dares to read more New Testament scripture for himself, he’s going to realize that throughout those who labored for the Gospel OF JESUS CHRIST were poor, broke and even homeless. You don’t even find the term “homeless” used anywhere in the entire Bible, but regarding the apostles and Jesus. Even after Jesus was resurrected.

And regarding Christians being cared for “by God”. One day Russell might open up his Bible to Acts and realize what was really being done to ensure the poor had “no lack”. The poor were not getting mystery checks in the mail. Saints with money were SHARING with the poor and the apostles only administered the distribution of that, they did not take it for themselves. He’s also might learn via reading more scripture, that when Paul talked about a “cheerful” giver and reaping “bountifully”, that Paul was talking about giving to the poor. Russell might also learn that Jesus said he will not be judged by a dime he gives to Eddie Long, but rather what he gives to the poor, Matthew 25:31-46

I pray Russell reads more New Testament scripture for himself and learns what the difference between old covenant and new covenant are.

Russell, I speak to you as one who attended New Birth for over 7 years. Eddie Long is not a man of God. He is a false teacher. And what you’ve been fed about abundance and prosperity is not the Word of the Lord.

Russell is not going to get it yet, because Russell is not reading much NT scripture. Not unless Eddie Long directs him to it.

There is hope for Russell though, because he does use biblical references. He’s just going to be shocked if/when he gets his references correct regarding what applies to his life and not the Jews under the old covenant.
