As promised in a previous post, I went down to Calvert County this morning and attended Calvert County Baptist Church in Prince Frederick. I was sure I was going to be able to come back and report to you that Daryl Godlock still butchers Scripture as badly as he did when he was at First Baptist Church of Glenarden five or so years ago. I was wrong.
Though he said some things I didn’t necessarily see the same way, he is much improved over the version I last saw in 1999.
Apparently he has been preaching a series called “The Four Roads.” As you can see from my notes, the four roads are the road to Damascus, the road to Jericho, the Road to Emaus, and the Road to Jerusalem. According to the sermon, each road has a lesson for us. Be it the sinner meeting Christ and recognizes his or her need for salvation to the need for all of us to die to ourselves. If you want to down load the notes as a PDF just click here. The notes were made more as a memory jog for me, so they may be a little difficlut to decipher.
His presentation was pleasantly restrained. He didn’t try to get people worked up. He stayed on topic. He seemed to recognize that the content of the message is more important than the reaction of the crowd. And one of the things I was most impressed with is the fact that he clearly and consistently applied what he was preaching to himself.
While I think on occasion he read a little more into the text than he really had the authority to do, overall, it was a good presentation with many very valid points. And while I can’t judge his heart, he really appears to be trying to do a pastor’s job there at Calvert County Baptist Church. He is to be commended.
Anyone from CCBC or anyone who knows him in general should encourage him to keep going the way he’s going. If he continues to develop as he appears to be developing, and can garner the faith to walk away from FBCG no matter the cost (here’s the idea of dying to self), he should be a great source of blessing for all the Christians (Black, White, and Brown) in Calvert County. I’ve added him to my prayer list.
First of All I Would like to say to You mr. Melvin Jones
Dr. Jamal H. Bryant is not a pulpit pimp but he is truly a man of God and you would be to if you didn’t talk about the people of God. What about you are u 1.
I am a Bishop and SeniorPastor/Founder of City of Judah International Fellowship Tab. and I say this KEEP UR MOUTH OFF OF GOD”S PEOPLE IF YOU DON”T GOT NOTHING SPIRITUALLY GOOD TO SAY
(Melvin’s Note: Four things:
1. I’ve told y’all before that the only person of God I put my mouth on is my wife! And a truly outstanding kisser she is too!
2. I applaud your willingness to use your name in your comment. Most of the whiners lurk around as anonymous or Truth Seeker, or some other silly name as they rail on me for being a coward.
3. I love the high falutin’ titles: Bishop, Founder, Senior Pastor. Man! What next? Apostle?
4. Does a true “Man of God” compromise and hang with those who admittedly promote a Oneness heresy (Noel Jones, Charles Ellis and others), or those who would claim that Jesus is the first born again man (Cashflow Dollar)? And does the true man of God butcher and twist the scriptures the way The Right Reverend Doctor Jamal-Harrison Bryant does?
By the way, why do you call your tabernacle the City of Judah INTERNATIONAL Fellowship? In fact, why do you call it a tabernacle, since we are the tabernacle, the temple of God? )
Those aren’t even the real issues. Jamal may be a man of God, but his techniques of getting an authentic gospel message across is highly flawed and damaging. The oneness thing is a whole other issue.
At least he mentioned his name and church! What about you?
(MN: Crusing - Are you naturally so dense or did you work hard to get this way? I am not going to put the name of the church I attend out here because I don’t want the church to become the issue. If you truly want the name, SEND ME AN E-MAIL. Is there some part of this you are not understanding? Should I use smaller words? )
Melvin, you don’t want YOUR church to become an issue! It’s not worth all this drama to find out where you attend. I just wanted to do a little research for myself about you. Good luck with whatever you are trying to accomplish!
{MN: What drama? Send me your e-mail adres and I will tell you where I attend. This isn’t rocket science.)
crusing,
Don’t mean to butt in but why don’t you just e-mail Melvin? What are you scared of? Melvin is being unusually patient with you.
Melvin, I have the Photon Torpedos locked onto crusing, and awaiting your orders……..
Melvin,
In an era where doctrinal soundness has become an oxymoron, where scriptural principles are laid aside for social and financial gain, and where titles trump truth, it is refreshing to see someone willing to call out those who are preaching a diluted, self-promoting gospel (lower-case ‘g’). Paul warned the Galatian church of this type of apostacy in Galatians 1:8. There he penned these words “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Now if we can judge an angel from heaven for preaching a false gospel, why do so many “Christians” get upset when someone calls out obvious misapplications of scipture by their Pastor, I mean Bishop, I mean Apostle, I mean…You get the point.
On The Followers:
Yeah, we’re living in an age where people are being taught and raised up in this kind of teaching. It’s inside of them.
They have been conditioned to believe it. They have never been taught or given a solid foundation. (Still No Exuse). But some people have never heard the word of God (For Real).
Melvin,
Thanks for taking a stand. It’s harsh, but necessary. Should anyone have more titles than God?
