I sit and I mind my business. I try to leave people alone. I even try to listen to some of you when you whine and complain about the posts I write. A couple of weeks ago, some reader complained that I must be bitter because I KEEP on writing about First Baptist Church of Glenarden on the Kettering, pastored by John K. Jenkins. And I listened. I thought “Maybe I am covering this pimp too much. Maybe, just maybe I should leave him alone for a bit.”
Then I made the mistake of visiting his site. You know, just looking around to see what they were doing for New Years. And then I saw it – evidence that far from mentioning him too often, I am not sounding the alarm enough.
A question for you: What do these three people have in common?
Sure they’re all Pentecostal, but that’s not the common factor I’m talking about. Yes, yes – they all appear on The Baal Network (TBN). But that’s not the common factor I’m looking for. Any more guesses? No?
Well, it seems that all three of these icons of ignorance are going to be guest speakers at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden/Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church annual New Years Watch and Revival.
Let’s review:
Noel Jones is a Oneness Pentecostal. He has made this fact quite clear on several occasions. He is a leader within the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (a Oneness organization led by such luminaries as Chuck Ellis out of Detroit). In fact, on his own web site he says:
Again, the man is a Oneness adherent. He denies one of the central tenets of Christianity. And he’s going to be speaking at a Baptist church. Well, he’s going to be speaking at a church that has a nominal hold on Baptist doctrine. Evidence that John Jenkins does not care about the welfare of the sheeple.
Have you ever listened to this fellow preach? It’s like listening to Geordi LaForge and Data having a conversation about the Enterprise’s warp core. But instead of Techno-babble , this man spews Christo-babble. I sit and listen and I think “Do people really think he is saying anything of significance?”
John Jenkins has reached a new low in exposing the sheeple to this man.
Then of course, there’s T. Dexter, the Potentate of Pomposity. I’ve discussed him until I’m blue (okay, dark blue) in the face. But it’s my lot in life to fully embrace the Cassandra syndrome.
The guy is Oneness, but too in love with money and too cowardly to admit it publicly. He has been rolled on HIV/AIDS (remember when he said he didn’t talk about AIDS because according to him, it’s not in the Bible ?). He refused to proclaim Jesus as the only way and instead mealy-mouthed some platitudes at some Muslim woman during a radio interview. He occasionally appears with Dr. Phil, a man who has unabashedly claimed that folks are wired homosexual and we need to get over it.
Yeah – he’s speaking at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, pastored by John K. Jenkins, a man who apparently doesn’t give a whit about the spiritual well-being of the men and women who are a part of the church. If T. Dexter is there, it means a lot of folks will be there too. And that means the coffers will be bulging, even after they pay the pimps their fees.
Finally, there’s pastor Sheryl Brady – the mascara lady. I’m trying to figure out how people, thinking men and women, can not only have a woman as their pastor, but have one who obviously owns stock in a mascara company to boot.
She appears to be a Fast Eddie with (if I may say it) breasts. She speaks of walking into greatness (not great in faith), about God greatly blessing us (material, or course), and other prosperity garbage. She speaks of God offering you another level in your spirit; your suffering just a preface to getting blessed. Your pain is just a warning that you are about to break into blessings. Too bad the victims of godlessness in China, Soviet Union, the Roman Empire, and other places never heard this. They were stupid enough to die without seeing that supposed blessing.
She even sounds like Fast Eddie…and John K. Jenkins…and T. Dexter. In fact, while I was listening, without looking at the video, I had to keep telling myself this was a white woman preaching and not John, T. Dexter, or Chuck Ellis.
These people are more evidence, more to support the indictment, that John K. Jenkins, the pastor of First Baptist Church of Glenarden, is not interested in taking care of the sheep. The fame of the pimps and pimpettes he is able to attract through the doors of his church (his and not Christ’s) gets greater and greater. And the worse thing is the sheeple are starving.
I have to wonder how men like Deacon Larry Lee, Deacon Stan Featherstone, the so-called “Elders”, Deacon Doug Smith, and a host of other spineless men can stand by and allow the wolves to feed on the flock. Oh wait, I think I just answered my own question. Standing by and saying nothing is what the spineless are best at.

You still take too much of your time talking about things that do not matter. First of all if you teach the truth (which is the word of GOD nothing added and nothing taken away {you know the holy scriptures everyone claims with their mouth they believe}) then you do not have to give examples of the things that they are doing wrong because the bible states clearly what they do. You Melvin, have no room to discuss anyone’s doctrine because you, as well as the other main bloggers on your site are twisting scripture and falsely teaching just like the pimps that you try to blast on your site. It is just that what they do is more obvious to the unskilled and the unlearned; it is easy to point out what they are doing wrong but satan is more clever than that). It takes some one that TRULY abides and BELIEVES in the Word of God {THE HOLY SCRIPTURES) to know that you are unskilled and unlearned and should not be teaching as well. Open up your bible and read each book like the letter to the church that they are and ask God for understanding and wisdom. He will give it to you. But as of right now you are doing the same thing that these false preachers you talk about do. TWIST SCRIPTURE AND GIVE FALSE DOCTRINE.

Actually MJ, I see a rather liquid attempt by TSTPTNI to refute the Trinity. I can understand why some people don’t want to use the term “Trinity”- because its not in the Bible. However, neither is a New Year Watch Service or a Pastor’s anniversary and some folk will go to great lengths to approve of them.
Furthermore, to whom did Christ pray to in Mark 14:36….
“And he said, Abba, Father, all things [are] possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.”
Was He praying to Himself? If He was praying to Himself, why then does He not answer Himself? (I answer me all the time when I talk to myself…but I guess that is neither here nor there).

The Lord has never stopped being. I can understand you not wanting to add anything to the Word, I can respect that. However, what is clearly seen if you look at the whole counsel of scripture is GOD, being the Father, being the Son and being the Holy Spirit- the whole time. Never being separate to make 3 distinct Gods, just one God and One Lord alone.

What does putting my name down have to do with God. Jesus, God the Father and the Holy Spirit are the only names you should want to know. They can, Charles Spurgeon used to have a Presbyterian preach in his pulpit if I remember correctly. I think a line would have to be drawn at some point. For Spurgeon, he loudly disagreed with Child baptism, but he still knew that the men who would preach in his pulpit would only preach what was right in the sight of God.

Good post. This hits home for me because where I live, the most Biblically sound church is a presbyterian church who does the infant baptism whole thing. My wife and I cant stand it, but, sadly there is not a more doctrinally sound church in our area.
Since I have come to know Christ, Ive been looking for any church that is doctrinally sound and actually places conformity to the Scriptures over emotional charismania.
Some presbyterians liken the infant baptism thing to what some may call a “baby dedication”.
I dont agree with it but I do agree it is a blue/navy blue issue. Infant baptism demonizes no one, but non-belief in the Trinity is labeled as heresy. Theres no way Id invite any oneness guy to minister to the church I attend. There are many flavors of oneness heresy, but it is exceedingly dangerous because at some point it denies the eternal existence of Jesus.
I agree, Julian. There are the Gospel essentials, and then there are second-tier issues that are important but shouldn’t divide Christians. Infant baptism is one of those. I will argue against it vehemently, but I eagerly recognize my reformed Presbyterian brethren as true brothers in Christ.
I’ve found THIS article very helpful in “diagnosing” these sorts of issues, and in developing discernment about them.
i would believe that as long as they are preaching the death and resurrection of Christ then it wouldn’t matter what denomination they are.
Actually there is only one God, one gospel and one church. The lord instructs us to be of one mind. Instead of worrying about what denomination to invite (which does not matter to God) stick to reading the letters of the bible which are instructions in righteousness, which is our life and add nothing to it and take nothing away. So many preachers say they are preaching the word of God but that is not true. For instance the prophets of the old testament only spoke to the people what the Lord instructed them to say and only did what the Lord instructed them to do.
(MN: On the other hand, the priests and Levites read the word and then EXPLAINED ITS MEANING (Nehemiah 8:7 says “Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, explained the law to the people while the people remained in their place.” So are you saying the only thing the Levites should have done is read the word to the folks and then sit down? )
Like Noah, the Lord told him he was going to destroy the earth with water and for him to build an ark EXACTLY like he was showed to do. What do you think would have happened to Noah if he did not believe what God told him? OR Moses, if he had not done EXACTLY what the Lord instructed him to do concerning putting the blood outside of the doors as he instructed during the death of the first born in Egypt; what would have happend to the first born of the children of Israel? They would have all died along with the Egyptians.

The prophets of the old testament are our example of how we are to follow God, believe in his words and not the commandments and man-made traditions, sermons of men that don’t know God. The bible is instruction in righteousness which is to followed word for word and believing in what is written and nothing else but the word of God is faith. And those that did EXACTLY what was instructed and commanded of them were considered righteous.
In these last days the Lord warns us that there are many antichrists and the only way you are doing to discern good and evil in these days is by THE WORD OF GOD which is what is written in the bible. When are you guys going to see that God is not divided by Baptist, Penticostle, Mormon, Catholic, etc. (MN: No one said there are. I’m not sure why you are railing against the assertion. ) Those divisions were man made in which one might agree with some terms of the bible but not all and you guys spend so much time fighting about petty stuff like who believes in the trinity that you have not gotten to the weightier matters (the meat). (MN: So you think the Trinity is a petty issue. Hmm. Do you also think denying that Jesus is fully man and fully God is a petty issue as well? Or do you think it is petty to deny that Jesus’ work on the cross was sufficient to pay the price of our sin? ) All of that disputing he says is of men of corrupt minds. Why not focus on teaching the truth Melvin and less time pointing out what these false preachers you highlight are doing. The Lord instructs us in Proverbs not be listen to them because they make you vain and you have posted videos, sermons, and their exact words on your site. He tells you that it is even a shame to speak of those things that they do in the dark. Thanks for putting that into digestible words for me. I have never understood his inane way of preaching. I couldnt quite explain to people what it sounded like to me, but you nailed it. From the look on most people’s faces who are listening to them, they feel the same way but have been trained to pass it off as “highly anointed”. What rubbish.

Know wht I find comical about this Sheryl Brady site, if you went down to left and looked you would see a tab for “Leap Year Seed 2008″. What in the blue h-e- double hockey sticks is a leap year seed? Is that a new seed offering from a new revelation? Must be from the same one that called her into the pastorate…
Now upon further research into Mrs Brady, we see that her husband is also a bishop with a “fresh anointing.” I don’t know about anyone else, but I personally detest the term “fresh anointing”. For one we are not in the OT. We don’t get oil poured over our heads symbolically to signify that God is now working in our lives. We as Christians ought to know that He is ALWAYS at work. He doesn’t take a break.
Furthermore, as the Holy Spirit dwells in us, He (and consequently His power) never gets old. Too many folk misconstrue the work of God in the OT as something that must be done today. We have the anointing- THE Holy Spirit, THE Holy Righteous Son of God, THE Father- residing in our hearts and minds. To that effect, His Spirit never gets old. His power never gets old. He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore.
To say that someone has a fresh anointing is to say that the anointing (THE HOLY SPIRIT) loses power over time and that is anathema, because the LORD can NEVER FAIL. And I know that there are folk who pray and ask God constantly for a fresh anointing. That is wrong. Pray for strength, for guidance, for mercy, for a heart that will suffer in order to grow closer to Christ, but a fresh anointing has nothing to do with us. WHen we come to Christ (after He has called us) and He cleanses us to live in us, is when we recognize that the Holy Spirit is already at work in our lives.

They will mostly feature an “illustrative” service where it is nothing more than an over-rehearsed, two-bit musical that does nothing to tell the story of the birth of Christ or the true power of His birth, death and resurrection (I’m speaking from first-hand experience having been active in music in the church settings). After a “candlelight” session, it’s then topped off with another “opportunity for prosperity” call and a “pledge” for the new year kick where, as usual, the pastor benefits.
You are correct in your suggestion and assertion for JJ as well as these other pulpit pimps to have these year end services be of real purpose by allowing them to be help centers for those that are unemployed, homeless and otherwise financially insolvent.
The list of corporations commencing layoffs, big and small, is growing daily and for these “people” to STILL continually pillage their followers for money on a false promise of a “turn-around” is galling. Yeah, these instances are truly ““…woe unto you pastors…” moments!”
I’m going to try to go the night Noel “The Weasel” Jones is speaking. The last time I saw him in person was a Jericho City of Praise engagement. He shouted a lot, sweat a lot and pointed a lot. But he said absolutely nothing. When I saw one of the men of FBCGotK (this is before I had left almost nine years ago), he was excited about how anointed the guy was. When I explained Noel Jones denies the Trinity, he said “But he’s anointed!” It’s all about the flash and dash. No substance unless it’s bad substance.

But rather Noel Jones is simply sharing with us whatever he wants and uses the cloak of being anointed to pass it off as if it were from God? Again, listen, line by line to what N. I think you should really do a little more investigating before you start making vicious attacks on many of these religious figures that touch so many peoples lives. But if you want to do some REAL investigative “Gods Work..” Why don’t you interview many of the members of these congregations to find out how their life has been affected. How has God changed them by being apart of these churches. It doesn’t sounds like you really understand the inner workings of many of these church’s ministries. How about you state whats right instead of who’s wrong. You really sound like a politician who competes with his opponents by attacking them rather than stating what you feel is right. Compare your views to the standard of the BIBLE. You don’t have to include anyone else. Just your views and the BIBLE.
