Some of the pimps we cover here are high powered and subtle enough to be really dangerous. Before his introduction to the county police and the free mug shot, Earl Paulk had the veneer of supposed apostolic authority. T. Dexter promotes the idea of being loosed (as opposed to being a maturing Christian). He’s looked at as the next Billy Graham. And others are progressing up ecclesiastical ladder by being promoted to bishop, archbishop and grand poobah.
But some of the pimps out there are totally vacuous, offering nothing but their looks, their personality and their willingness to feed the sheeple all the swill the sheeple want to hear. While those are dangerous too, the dispensers of swill are more fun to deal with than anything else.
One of those swill-dispensers is Jamal, the Pimp Prince of Baltimore.
If you remember, about a year and a half ago I told you about my visit to the Empowerment Temple of Doom and the fact that I missed an opportunity to get a picture of one of their vans. Well, one of my operatives was out and about the town last week and stumbled across one of the Prince of Pimps’ transportation units.

Look at the van again and answer a couple of questions for me.
Why is there no mention on the side of the van of Jesus Christ? If you’ll notice, there isn’t even a mention of the fact that the van belongs to a Christian organization. Sure, Jamal has the tag “pastor” under his name, but pastor of what? A Unitarian church? A Mormon Church? At least the Mormons drag Jesus and God the Father into their ads. Even if the Father is Adam.
There is, however, a six foot tall image of Jamal the Prince Pimp.
Am I supposed to come to the temple because of Jamal? I thought the idea was to tell people about Jesus Christ, not tell people about Jamal. I thought the idea was to present the Gospel, not present a guy who dresses like a high-end pimp.
But the truth, as unpleasant as it may be, is that Jamal is simply an manifestation of the sorry state of nominal Christianity, especially nominal Christianity within the Black community.
If you take a look at the average mega-church in a predominately Black community, you get messages that are incredibly short on solid doctrine but really long on emotions, long on performance and theatrics, and really long on the scratching of ears. You don’t like being poor? The pastor will promise you that your breakthrough is coming. You don’t like the crummy job you have? The pastor will promise you supernatural success and tell you that you’re the head and not the tail.
And what’s the result of this meat-free diet? Go back and take a look at the Empowerment Temple Four Wheeled Billboard and Advertisement for Jamal.
In those environments, Jesus Christ, the originator and finisher of our faith is secondary to the person who heads the organization. That has certainly happened with Jamal, with Fast Eddie and some of the new pimps like Zachary Timms.
Stay as far away from Jamal as you possibly can. He is a pimp. He butchers Scriptures with the best (or the worst) of them. He appeals to the flesh. He presents flash and dash in place of solid meat. And he promotes himself shamelessly. These are not qualities you want in a sub-shepherd.

So sad. This kind of advertising and mess really hurts people. There’s a guy at my job who refuses to go back to that church and feels his better off partying in the streets. He believes there’s no difference in what Jamal is doing than what he does on a daily basis. I have seen that Jamal’s advertising has hit PG County to Mel. A big bus sign with his face planted right on it. The scriptures are being fulfilled more and more.

Maybe it’s just me, but “Empowerment Temple” sounds sooooo New Age. Scary.
This is sad. I guess this is the state of the Church and Christian media today. As being a media student and knowing that all media is constructed, I realize that people only seek to draw disciples unto themselves. They claim to be Christian, but there is less of Christ being seen and more of them. They have you hooked like a drug coming back for more circus acts. Let us watch and pray lest we become apostates ourselves.
All I want to say is this: even if I had been blind enough to believe that this guy was legit, he would have lost me when his wife left him. All of the rumors and speculation aside, I would have had to take notice if the woman that he LIVED with had to leave him. Doesn’t even matter what he did: whether it was adultery or cheating on his income taxes. Once divorce enters a leader’s life, he needs to step down because he is no longer qualified based on the scripture in the book of Timothy. He cannot rule his house well if his house walks out. I will not attend a church or listen to a pastor/teacher/leader who is divorced. And before anyone thinks that I am throwing stones, I myself have been divorced, so I am not “judging” anyone. I just know that a divorced person is disqualified for leadership.
i’m not certain, but i think he and his wife are in the process of restoration. i saw a youtube clip (i don’t know how recent it is) where he informs his congregation that the “first lady” and their children are in attendance.
everyone seemed to be ecstatic that they were there.
That’d be great. Then all they have to do is get their theology fixed.
She was kind enough to bring the kids to church for father’s day.

How does one have a child out of his marriage by an underaged young girl and remain in the pastorate? Where are the AME Bishops? Where are his parents Bishop Braynt and his mother Cecilia Bryant? They were ministers here in Boston years ago when I was a teen. THey had a lot of clout in the denom. It is tragic.

i thank God that i got saved in a local church that didnt have alot of members , because Jesus was the focus . So it made me a person straight from the streets understand from jump , that it is all about Christ. But what the enemy has done now the Pastors or Shepards of these flocks are becoming insecure of the size or members of there local church , and the very things that they think is a curse was the very thing that kept there eyes on the Lord to the most part. Is there a scripture that says what men highly esteem GOD finds abominable (sorry if spelled wrong)? I read Revelations 18 I call the merchants the mega pastors with the mega churches the foul, and unclean spirits on the earth. Just like Babylon the great is falling so shall those that encourage the proliferation of the Babylonian spirit that many are mesmerized by.

The signage on the bus clearly says “A.M.E. Church.” The African Methodist Episcopal Church is a Christian denomination.
(MN: It could just as easily have said “LDS Church”, “Kingdom Hall”, “Christian Science Reading Room” or some other outfit. Besides, being AME doesn’t make them Christian. The van with the six foot face is bad enough. Not even bothering to promote Chrst simply adds to it.
Dump the face, put the name and address of the church there, and provide a short evangelistic message. You know. something like “Turn or burn sinner. Turn or burn. (John 3:18)” Say what you want. The six foot face makes Jamal the focus, not Christ.

(MN: I think there are Christians within the organization. But once they started ordaining women, they moved out of the realm of orthodox Christianity. They have an episcopal hierarchy so I can live with the bishop thing. But many of them (including Jamal, Grainger Browning, and others) are about as far as you can get from Orthodox Christianity. As an example, Browning brough Calypso Louie (aka Louis Farrakhan) in to speak to the congregation. And even as Calypso Louie took swipes at Jesus Christ, Grainger continued to refer to Calypso as a man of God. Christian? Not likely. Why doesn’t denomination smack down people like this? Why did Jamal get sat down for only a month after a blazing moral failure? Christian? Not like. Not as a denomination. Sure they name the name of Christ. But I’m not seeing their lives lived in cursory obedience to the Bible. I don’t consider them to be a Christian organization any more than I consider the United Methodists or the Episcopalians to be a Christian ORGANIZATION. Are there Christians within each? Sure. )

Where in the Bible does a “bishop” have higher ranking than an elder? In the Bible bishop and elder are synonymous terms. Scripture shows a plurality of elders in the local church of equal footing are to keep watch over each other, but not some “bishop” over “elders” or some “bishop of bishops”… The model used by AME is very similar to the model used in Roman Catholicism.
Or did you make a typo?
(MN: I said I can live with it, not that I agreed with it. The episcopalians basically ARE the Catholic. Except the priests get to marry. The reason I have less trouble with it is that is their doctrine and they are acting in unison with that doctrine. The baptist bishop mills appear to exist IN ORDER to give some of the better producing pimps a nice title to throw around. There are several other denominations that use an episcopal (root word episcopos - often translated bishop) organization. The move into approving of women and active homosexuals as leaders within the denominations pretty much demonstrate that they don’t have their heads on straight. So again, I don’t equate the current Episcopal and Anglican denominations as bishop mills. Neither do I see AME as a bishop mill. The organization that ordained Claude and the one that is run by Morton, are, in my opinion, bishop mills pure and simple. )
