A Little Dead, A Little Pregnant

Posted by Melvin Jones on April 30th, 2006

You can’t be a little dead or slightly pregnant. You either are, or you are not. And in the same way, you can’t be slightly Arminian. You either are or you aren’t. If you are even “slightly Arminian” you deny, to some degree, the sovereignty of God. And if you deny the sovereignty of God, you make God less than God since one of His characteristics is sovereignty. It also goes against the basic tenet of Christianity that says we are saved by Grace. And no matter how little work is required, any amount of works negates the idea of grace. (more…)

Silver Tongued Apologist Award

Sword and Bible

Over the next week or so, I am going to pore over the comments you, the readers, have made. Once done, I will present the top five to you and, using the polling software installed by my vastly over priced webmaster, I would like for you to identify the one you liked the best. Which one, in your opinion, reflected the truth the best? Which one stated the truth most clearly? Your reasons for selecting the one you choose are for you to determine. I may see if I can include comments from the voters as to why they chose the comment they chose.

Keep an eye open. As I said, voting should start in about a week. I’ll use the week end to start culling the herd. Oh, and don’t even think about the most recent shouter. I’m still trying to assimilate what that person said.

Welcome to McBryant’s!

The Holy Ghost Air Force

When I first started this site over a year ago, I identified Ken Copeland as the Godfather of the Word of Faith mafia. He has again proven my assessment of him as accurate. A reader let me know that the Godfather had canvassed the faithful for money and sure enough the sheep came through. And now, the Kenneth Copeland Ministries is the proud owner of a Cessna Citation X business jet. Take a look at a generic version of what the sheep bought their wolf. Click here. (more…)

Ecumenicalism and the Buck

Posted by Melvin Jones on April 13th, 2006

One of the things that makes my job really easy is the fact that the pimps think you are so incredibly stupid. They don’t even bother to hide their disobedience to Scripture. Instead, they do things practically out in the open, as though daring any of you unanointed schleps to say anything.

John Jenkins has openly pledged fealty to T. Dexter Jakes. Jakes appears with Noel Jones and the Crouches. Jamal-Harrison Bryant, Boy Model, appears with Jones, Jenkins, Dollar and anyone else who can raise a crowd of more than two. (more…)

Calling All Men

Posted by Melvin Jones on April 13th, 2006

I was about to go to bed but decided to check my e-mail. The publicity machine run by Pimpasaurus Rex (aka Eddie Long) sent me a message. I won’t say much about it. Take a look at the play list for the Easter celebration. Click here.

Bottom left-hand side of the e-poster. You see her? Yeah, that’s Pattie “”Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?” LaBelle. She’s one of the show’s performers.

But I really got a blast when I looked at some of the pre-Easter activities taking place on April 15th. We’re going to have haircuts, medical screenings, Medicare prescription coverage service and food. But my favorite activity is…well, rather than tell you, click here and try not to laugh/cry your butt off. I keep getting the image of hundreds of men, bending over and grabbing the edge of an exam table. And it’s an image I didn’t need just before I went to bed.

Greater Grace Temple and the Ecumenical Goat Rope

Posted by Melvin Jones on April 9th, 2006

I’m starting to feel a bit like Cassandra. But that’s okay. If nothing else, I get practice wording this message until I get it right.

Take a look at the e-poster from Greater Grace Temple below. Click on it to get an enlarged image.

Who do you see? There’s Noel “The Weasel” Jones, Juanita Bynum, and Bishop Paul Morton. You might, at this point, ask: “So?”
This e-poster is significant because Noel Jones is Oneness - that is, he denies the Trinity and adheres to a Jesus only teaching. Bishop Morton, on the other hand is ostensibly Baptist and adheres to a Trinitarian doctrine. Despite the desire to love one another, these two doctrinal views are not compatible. They are mutually exclusive. And each considers the other heretical. Unless of course they want to work together to fleece the poor sheep who trust them.

I can’t say for certain that Ms. Weeks is Oneness, but her husband is. It seems unlikely, given this, that she is Trinitarian in her view. Remember, she “ministers” with him all the time. Double-teaming the flock so to speak.

The nature of the Godhead (Trinitarian vs Oneness) is an essential divide in Christianity. It is not in the “let’s set this aside so we can get along” category. If a person rejects the Trinity, he rejects Christianity, even if he continues to call himself a Chrstian. If he rejects the Trinity, he rejects historic Christianity. Those who would profess CHristianity and a Trinitarian view of the Godhead should not fellowship with these in light of 2 John 10, 11. We are not to receive such a one. And we are not to give him a greeting.

While I certainly can’t judge a man’s heart, I have to figure one of two things: wither Morton is incredibly ignorant and doesn’t understand the importance of the Trinitarian doctrine (though he has a doctorate from Call Me Doctor University), or he is incredibly careless in his associations.

I find it difficult to believe that Morton doesn’t know that Jones is Oneness, or that Bishop Weeks is Oneness. I also have a difficult time believing that Morton doesn’t understand that the doctrine of the Trinity is one of the cornerstones to Christian doctrine. But if he doesn’t understand that, he certainly shouldn’t be a “bishop” and that anointing he claims to have in such profundity certainly isn’t helping him stumble into the truth. Instead, it seems to be pulling him further into compromise and outright error.

I doubt if Bynum and company are even saved. Generally, Oneness practitioners promote a works-based economy for salvation. And despite a person’s sincerity, if they come to God offering Him something in exchange for salvation, they are not in faith trusting in God’s grace and are trying, even in some small way, to earn their salvation. And of course, efforts to earn your salvation are doomed to failure.

And if Noel Jones is sincere in his Oneness position, why is he having anything to do with Morton? The only conclusion I can reasonably come to is that each of them finds the other useful. Noel Jones can draw the Oneness crowd. Ms. Bynum-Weeks can draw a predominately female crowd. And Paul Morton can certainly draw the Trinitarian/Baptist crowd. The winner in this entire ecumenical goat rope ? Ellis.

All told, he will be able to pull a huge number of people through the Greater Grace doors. Once they are there, Bishop Ellis has the opportunity to get them to come back. And since the crowd will have demonstrated they don’t place doctrine anywhere near the top in importance, he can say whatever he wants and they won’t pay the least bit of attention. They just enjoy the music, get their praise on, and throw money in the coffers. These are the kinds people pimps want in their churches. Then Mr. Ellis has more money to bring in more people who, in the last analysis, will have missed the truth of the Gospel and settled for playing at church.

And we won’t even mention the collections Greater Grace will take up during the three-day conference, while the people are all wound up.

By the way, did you notice the topics being covered by the conference? They’re training pastors in such things as:

  • Increasing the church’s revenues
  • Setting up and running a bookstore
  • Establishing a communications and video ministry
  • Establishing a call center for prayer

While none of these are automatically bad, isn’t it interesting that the conference doesn’t offer anything in the way of developing effective sermons, establishing an environment for effective discipling, or encouraging the congregation to live a holy and acceptable life (Romans 12:1,2)?

Use the Force, Tony!

Posted by Melvin Jones on April 4th, 2006

Christianity has an interesting history. When done right, in keeping with those things Jesus would have us do, it has been a force for good in the world. When done badly, say the witch hunts of New England, the results have been anything but good.

There are those who present and practice Christianity in such a way that others can see the value of Christian living. Go to the nearest town and you will find the preacher/pastor who faithfully studies the Bible, applying it in his life and teaching it accurately and objectively to the people he pastors. I’m sure this crowd includes Kimberly’s husband in Kansas.

Then there are those who, like Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, the Right Reverend Frederick K. C. Price and T. D. Jakes do Christianity badly, and practice Christianity in such a was as to make Christianity look like nothing more than a scam aimed at the simple-minded. It’s almost as if there is a light side and a dark side to Christianity. You know, like the Star Wars stuff with the Jedi Knight who listen to the light side and Darth Vader and his buds who have succumbed to the dark side.

Take a look at the ad at the top of the post for yet another conference hosted by Eddie “Pimpasaurus” Long.

There’s Robert Schuller, a guy who just wants to get along and figures everybody is right, one way or another.

Then there’s Creflo Dollar, the probable heir apparent to Kenneth Copeland.

And right there in the crowd is I.V. Hilliard, the Turnpike Pimp from Houston.

But I was really knocked for a loop when I saw the second name on the list - Dr. Tony Evans. For years, Dr. Evans stood tall in orthodoxy. I’m not sure what happened, or when it happened, but over the last year or so he has been rubbing elbows with the Darths of the Force.

Think about this: Evans is going to be appearing on stage (I refuse to say “in church”) with Cashflow Dollar, Robert Schuller, and Eddie Long. That’s a little like hearing that Cornell West will be participating in a conference being hosted by David Duke, the former Klan Grand Wizard and avowed racist.

Try as I might, I can’t think of a good reason for Evans to join up with these clowns. For goodness sake, he’s a Dallas Theological Seminary graduate. He got a degree that really means something. And now, after ten or so years of relative fame, he apparently throws in with the pimps.

I can see it now. Eddie Long calls on young Pastor Evans and tells him about the power he can have, the things he can possess. And all he has to do is come over to the dark side.

I suspect it looked something like this (click here).

Oh, and here’s the link to Eddie’s site.

And in case you think this is a one time event, here is a link to Dr. Evans’ site advertising another event.
