Message From Hickeyville - Pt 2

Posted by Melvin Jones on May 28th, 2005

Being on the fairy godmother’s mailing list can make a person lazy. I don’t have to scan the web as much as I might to find stuff about her. She sends it straight to my house. I do have to scan the stuff in though.

Anyway, FGM Marilyn is still at it, appealing to your greed, laziness, and an understandable desire to have a sense of security and safety. One of her latest letters is ample description of that. Here are a set of links to the intro of the prophecy letter she sent me. I’m not going to spend the bandwidth putting up the prophecy. You can get the same thing from Master Prophet Jordan, who, like Reverend Ike, thinks you’re an idiot.

Click on them and take a look at the swill she is more than willing to feed to vulnerable and foolish masses who send her money. She spends the first part of the letter assuring folks that if they obey God, He has a miracle or two He wants to work in your life. Then she spends the second part of the letter doing the same thing. Then, and hears the really slick part, the rest of the letter is tilted to lead you to believe that sending a SEED of OBEDIENCE to her is the obedience that God is looking for.

Click here to see the part that got me hopping mad.

If she can pray things and have them happen, why is she prostituting that ability by selling it to us for 25 dollars a pop? Why not use this great ability to encourage and brace the people who are really hurting. I mean, okay, I work at Trak Auto and I only make $1500 dollars a month. Where does it say I’m supposed to make more? Or I got greedy and went completely stupid with my credit cards and now I’m so pushed to pay them back, I can’t do much of anything else. Where does it say God is supposed to magically wipe out my debt and let me start all over again?

But when it comes to stuff God does talk about, FGM Marilyn seems to suddenly become blind and deaf.

The Bible tells us we are to pray for those who are in Christ and in danger. A couple of examples include:

Romans 15:30 , 32 says:

30 Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, 31 that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to the saints; 32 so that I may come to you in joy by the will of God and find refreshing rest in your company.

2 Corinthians 1:11 says:

“you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.”

Who would need these kinds of prayer, you ask? Simple, the people out there who have to actually suffer for being a real live Christian.

Click here to read about some of them.

So remember, while these Christians, your brothers and sisters in Christ, are physically suffering and even dying, FGM Marilyn is telling you she will prophecy and make your life easier.

Do you see that what she says has nothing to do with being a Christian and everything to do with seeing God as a cosmic bellhop, waiting to meet my every desire?

C’mon Phyllis!

I have had a running correspondence with Phyllis X from FBCG. She has, on a fairly regular basis, commented on the contents of the site. Specifically, she has been hanging around the post “It Gets Better and Better.” (more…)

Lamar and the rest of John Jenkins’ fans continue to defend his actions, not by addressing the real issues but by looking at all the wonderful things he has done. Of course the question remains: Do nice things, done for the wrong reason, count with Jesus Christ at the judgment seat? (more…)

A Mind to Build

Posted by Melvin Jones on May 18th, 2005

May 29th is “A Mind to Build Day” at First Baptist Church of Glenarden. The announcement on the web site doesn’t say exactly what the good folks at FBCG will be doing that day, but here is the graphic they use to announce the day.

Add for building

I’d like to think the “Mind to Build Day” is a day the leadership talks about building up the Body of Christ. You know, edifying the saints, helping them to grow and mature in Christ so they can each go into the community and make a difference. Or if they want to work in groups, they would be able to do so on their own. It’d be nice if the leadership would talk about real live discipling, not just running people through a bunch of classes and making them think that because they did that, they have somehow grown in Christ, while all the time telling them that they “…are the head and not the tail…and remember, your breakthrough is coming…so make sure you run with the horses…etc.”

It would be nice if the “Mind to Build Day” is a gathering of the saints to pray for the leaders of the church and to prepare to send members of the church out to establish another church in another section of town or some place else in the county.

But somehow, just somehow, I suspect “A Mind to Build Day” is going to be about making another push to get some more money to build on the monument in Kettering, Prince Georges County, Maryland.

So, while the graphic they use on the web site is the two hands holding a hammer, I suspect it should actually look more like this.

Hold on to your wallets.

GospelToady - Revisted

Okay. I had time to think some more about this month’s issue of GospelToady. I guess I’m not really terribly upset about them being the pimps’ conduit to you. Although I am disturbed by it, very disturbed. (more…)

My niece hs done me proud. Ayana, my niece, posted a couple of blogs, the likes of which I have not seen from any other 20+ year olds. Heck, I haven’t seen this kind of stuff from any of the supposedly anointed and powerful preachers I run across. (more…)

As I watched the goings events at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, MD, I kept thinking about 14th Street in downtown Washington DC. Years ago, during the heyday of Mayor Marion Barry, 14th Street was Hooker Highway. Women of various ages, various heights and weights, various races and in various stages of dress all stood or pranced along the street doing the same thing: trying to convince passers-by to give them money in exchange for sex. Farrakhan and Ebenezer - Light and Dark or Dark and Dark?

Posted by Melvin Jones on May 2nd, 2005

If I can avoid being a slug tomorrow (2 May 2005), I am planning on attending the commemoration and announcement meeting at Ebenezer. I want to see for myself what compromise looks like.

I want to get pictures and hear for myself what Browning says. If I can work this right, I might, just might, even have a couple of mpegs with sound to provide. But this is, as I said, if I can avoid a serious case of slugdom. I live twenty plus miles from Ebenezer. And I’ll have to find a parking spot, and I’ll probably have to walk a ways, and find a seat. I’ll probably be going there straight from work so I can get a seat in the main sactuary.

Pray for me.

A Target Rich Environment

Posted by Melvin Jones on May 1st, 2005

The military has a phrase I like a lot. When the Air Force is providing close air support or insuring air superiority, they send attack craft like the A-10 or fighters like the F-16 or F/A-18 to destroy enemy forces in the area. If there are a lot of them (enemy forces), the area they are in is said to be a “target rich environment”. Prince Georges county and Washington, DC are, for me, just such a target rich environment. I sometimes have trouble making the time to report on the more outrageous goings on. But I had to make time for this as soon as I discovered it.

A friend of mine gave me a call today to let me know that Louis Farrakhan (aka Calypso Louie) is going to be speaking at Ebenezer A.M.E church on May 2, 2005. Since I don’t like to publish things if I don’t have sufficient objective evidence of it’s accuracy, I asked my friend to send me a copy of the flyer announcing the event. It was given to him by a fellow (a Black Muslim) while on the Metro (subway for you who don’t live in the area).

Here’s a thumbnail of the flyer.

Small flyer

Click on it and get a larger version of the offending piece of paper. For those of you who might not be aware, Calypso Louie is the leader of the Nation of Islam (NOI), the Black Muslims.

We know that Islam and Christianity are not compatible. And according to the orthodox Muslims, NOI has little to do with authentic Islam other than the fact that they use the Koran and they don’t eat pork. There is even less commonality between Christianity and NOI. Yet Union Temple Baptist in Washington DC and Ebenezer AME in Prince Georges County Maryland seem to think we should identify with them.
