Wow melvin, you're leaving another church...again....the bible says you reap what you sow...what have you sown that causes you to have to leave a church every year....let me guess, everyone else just doesn't know the word so that's why you have to leave. Well my advice to you is make better judgment when joining a church and u wont have to leave them so often. I really feel sorry for you, can't even find a good church home. Maybe the problem is something thats wrong in your heart that's causing you to join the wrong church...EVERY YEAR.

(MN: Wow Jake. You really don't pay much attention. Rather than sitting there, behind your keyboard, why don't you pay attention and try to make some useful suggestions? That is, make some useful comments after you read the postings and comments that have come before you obviously ignorant comment? You're making yourself look really stupid.

Your supposedly sarcastic remarks are terribly betrayed by your silly questions that clearly demonstrate that you really don't bother to read what's right in front of you. So to get you up to speed, why don't we review:

1. In the last twenty years I have attended four churches. One a Reformed Presbyterian church (almost seven years), the second was First Baptist Church of Glenarden on the Kettering pastored by John K. Jenkins (7 years) , the third was Calvary Chapel Breath of Life (seven years) and the last is Hillcrest Baptist. Where, exactly, is the one church every year?

2. The deacons at Hillcrest Baptist Church decided to get rid of the pastor (Eric Redmond) through some pretty underhanded methods. Eric was preaching solid doctrine, training men who are interested in growing in the truth, and moving us toward a solid reformed theology. The deacons didn't want to bring the church in line with the Bible. Instead, they wish to keep it steeped in tradition.

So what, exactly, is the issue with my heart? In responding, try to be specific, addressing the issues I have raised. And try not to present some religions, supposedly clever response. )

N'Catina, you pretty much summed it up with 1 Corinthians 5:11. I agree that Melvin should bounce based on that scripture alone. Heck, I recently left a church because the Pastor was putting me to sleep every sunday. I can sleep at home, I don't need to fall asleep at church!

Well, what if your learning has exceeded what you're being taught? Would you leave then? As I am a single female, that has to be a consideration. In any case, I hope it helps with the decision-making process. I on the other hand, have a long road ahead I suspect.

(MN: Before I left First Baptist, I used to take a book on Sunday mornings so it wouldn't be a complete waste. I got through "Charity and Its Fruits" by Jonathan Edwards and several other books doing that. However, I also, as much as I was permitted, taught. They actually had me teach in the Bible Institute [got in trouble when I presented Monergism - aka Calvinism, taught against women pastors, and a couple of other things]. If you have exceeded the teaching, then perhaps you can share some of what you have learned, and what God is doing with you, with the women there. I can almost guarantee you they haven't a real clue about Christian living - sacrifice and all. )

Hey Melvin,

I hope that this item from Dr. John MacArthur will provide some objective biblical guidance. In reading his points, it sounds as if there are at least 2 reasons to move on.

(MN: Good article. He actually covered much of what I did in an article here on P-P. Although I wouldn't even count "not being taught enough" as a sufficient reason to leave. If nothing else, I can add to the quality of the teaching. )

So Melvin should return to a "church" where the "pastor" teaches false doctrine and allows heretics (whom he supports financially and otherwise) to fill his pulpit?? Is that what you're saying??

Good grief. You're clueless.

Bro Phil,

Why is it that Melvin is the common denominator in all of these bad ministries? I believe Mel should search his heart, repent, and ask God for clear direction. He hasn't healed from where God called him to, 1st Baptist of Glenarden. He doesn't see any good from every church he's attended.

(MN: Huh? Where did you get that from? I have been quite happy at Hillcrest. What make you think I didn't see any good there? And just out of curiosity, why do you think I am contemplating leaving? )

He should not discount his former Pastor's discernment and his own wife's discernment. We should move on to the next topic because this is becoming a pity party. We must dialogue on how to reconcile with God and our brethren. I've been there and until I realized that we are an imperfect people with a perfect God that I was able to move on and serve God with spirit and truth.

No, and this is why...Titus 3:1 (obeying "magistrates," but not happening here), 1 Corinthians 5:11 (apparent "railers"--KJV among the bunch--not good) & Revelation 18:4. With the last scripture reference, specifically, the members causing the division in the church are the ones for which those operating in righteousness need to separate from. As well, because 2 Timothy 4:3 & 4 seem to be ruling this church, it is best for Melvin in this instance to bounce.

To all a question:
If those in Melvin's church understand the biblical issues and continue in sin, does Melvin have the right biblically to stay and fellowship with them?

Nah Seeker, it was played out. There wasn't anything going to be said that hadn't already been said.

Good advice on the church situation. While I have no doubt there are plenty of cracks, I doubt much light emanates from them.

Man I wish that Obama thread was alive and kicking. I have so much more to say...

Anyways, go ahead and leave the church, and save yourself a lot of heart ache, unless you can find some light in the cracks that will allow you to make a difference.

(MN: Well said, Seekerman. Well said. I'm actually going to have dinner with one of the assistant pastors next week. It should be interesting. )

PhillyFlash,

The only one that is going to know if it's time to leave or not is Melvin, having been in a simular situation.

No matter where Melvin goes (or stays) there is always going to be somebody that he will be able to minister to. So staying for the reason he's needed there is really playing tricks with your mind.

The only reason that you stay is because God has not released you from that ministry and trust me he will know (if he does'nt already know) when it's time to leave.

We all can give Melvin reason to stay and/or go but the final decision will come down to "Melvin and God, what did God tell you too do".

If Melvin has an realtionship with God (and I believe that he does, although I do not agree with everything he says...4 the record) HE WILL KNOW when it's time to leave.

Be Blessed Melvin, and I'm praying 4 you and your wife ...

(MN: Thanks WIW. I appreciate the concern. But I'm still going to have to confiscate your "I'm a Mind-Numbed Robot" membership card, T-shirt, and baseball cap if you continue to say there are things I say that you don't agree with. )

Hi MJ,

I think you should hang in there a bit longer....maybe this is the reason God brought you there in the first place?

It's clear those folks are a bit confused but maybe you are the one to clear up this confusion....you're pretty good at that....maybe you are exactly what that group needs but you and they will never know if you bail....

Just my .02 Brother!

My prayers as always are with you and yours!

Wow, looks like a lot of us are and/or was in the same type of situation. I left my church about a year ago (Gave up keys, parking spot and a seat on the pulpit) currently I'm waiting to hear from God on the directions me and my wife should go...i.e. help out another vision or start a ministry. As mention above seeking directions or another church is very difficult, I'm trusting God ...keep me and my family in your prayers

Bro Mel and the P-P congregants,

My prayers are with you and Min Redmond. My prayer is that the love and peace of God will remain in you. Remember, “this is not your battle, it is the Lord’s” and “we wrestle not against flesh and blood but spiritual wickedness”. Now that we know that God is working it out, we must examine ourselves in the midst of such situations. He already said in his word that we will face persecutions and we already know what the end will be. So, in the midst of this, what is God saying to you regarding your own soul and spirit? Share with the congregants your hurts and what meditations and/or biblical teachings you are participating in that would heal your wounded spirit. I’m sure many P-P congregants are going thru the same. Rev 12:11 says: “we overcame satan by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony…” I welcome testimonies from other saints who have overcame because this is nothing new under the sun.

Read your posts again. We can't say Christ's love is represented at your church on either side.

(MN: Not everybody is taking sides. I didn't say that EVERYONE is against everyone. Many people [like me] are trying to figure out how to repair the rent; or even if the rent is repairable. )

Both sides are bitter or at least have ill-will against each other.

(MN: Not really. We don't see the folks on the "other side" as wicked evil, just wrong. )

And know that we don't have anything to gain from what we've written; we don't know you or anyone who goes to your church.

And forgive us in saying this, but you really need to examine your heart and be humble. You sound very defensive in your response- sorry if we had offended you but we wanted you to know how it appears to someone not involve in your church.

(MN: Not offended. Just amazed at the presumptuousness and assumptions, like the ones illustrated in this very comment you made. )

We would hope that our comment spur those in your church to think about their own heart because we know that the heart is deceptive.

....wait a minute....I don't have an account? What??
All this time I've been sowing seeds into Melvin's Ministry, just like he's told us to...and I don't have
anything in my account?
Where's the 30, 60 or 100-fold 'spose to come from now, Melvin???

(MN: Did I say you didn't have an account. No, no. I said on NO ACCOUNT would you or your gifts be turned away. Remember, your breakthrough is coming if you keep sowing. )

All kidding aside, what an awful mess in your church. Prayers for your pastor and family; likewise for you. Time to dust off the sandals. Keep the faith. Seeking and finding another church is very difficult as you well know.
I can't stand this type of infighting...:(

(MN: I really don't know if I should simply bail or not. Granted, the congregation has demonstrated it is split on whether or not to follow Scripture. And it certainly is going to be interesting to see who replaces Eric. But... )

Melvin,
I feel for you, as I find myself wrestling with the whole should I stay, should I go question at my church. I pray that God will give you clear direction on what to do. Keep the faith!

Well, I am not sure how one would repair a rift with folks who are not biblically minded nor submitted to Scripture's authority.

First, Melvin, im really sorry about the whole matter. But I must say, stepping down must have taken a whole lot of courage and humility.
Also, if you dont mind, I was wondering if you could tell me if IC's website has been assaulted by hackers. Best.

(MN: I was just out there. He appears to be fine. )

Excuse me....I work with systems all day and I'm just about in tears laughing at this exchange. Uh....how does one delete an 'Anonymous' account? And why, pray tell, would it be deleted? ROFL....you're 'Anonymous' if it were an account, which it isn't. HAHAHA I bet that's one of my customers. Granted, this may just be funny to us geeks so I'm going to tell this one on the floor.

bye bye hahahaha :-D
